The Warner Robins Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for Tony’s
Pawn Shop Saturday. During that time, Tony Castro and his family and friends gathered
with Chamber representatives at 520 North Davis Drive to celebrate. Three years ago,
Castro bought Wellston Pawn from his longtime employers and friends Steve Rodgers
and Calvin Maye. According to a release, Tony’s Pawn Shop is one of the largest pawn
shops in middle Georgia. “Everything purchased comes with a 30-day written warranty
and there is a guarantee on all jewelry repairs,” the release reads. ‘‘Mr. Castro works
closely with the sheriff’s dept and police dept on daily basis so if you are a thief, don’t
bring your stuff here! The pawn shop offers a great crew of employees and includes
a Spanish speaking sales associate. Be sure to stop in and take a look at the variety
offered at Tony’s Pawn Shop!”
Pre-K and Kindergarten
registration under way
Special to the Journal
Houston County elementa
ry schools will register chil
dren for Pre-Kindergarten
and Kindergarten for the
2007-08 school year from
now through March 31.
Registration will be
Monday through Friday
from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
According to a board of edu
cation release, children must
be registered in their cur
rent school zone.
Students zoned for the
new Hilltop Elementary
should register in their cur
rent school zones.
All children registered for
Kindergarten will be guar
anteed enrollment for the
fall.
Enrollment for Pre-K,
however, is limited to the
number of slots allocated by
the Georgia Office of School
Readiness.
Pre-K enrollment,
therefore, is selected by a
lottery. Once registration
closes, a computer program
will be used to randomly fill
the available Pre-K slots at
each school.
Parents will be notified by
the end of April by mail
whether they were selected
or not. The Houston County
Board of Education approved
this lottery selection process
in October 2006.
In the past, children
had been enrolled for Pre-
Kindergarten on a first
gome, first-serve basis for
the state-allotted number of
openings.
To be eligible for Pre-K,
a child must be 4 years old
on or before Sept. 1. To be
eligible for Kindergarten, a
child must be 5 years old on
or before Sept. 1.
