The Warner Robins Recreation
Department will be taking registra
tion for "Youth Academy Summer
Camp” for boys and girls ages
7-12 starting April 30.
Activities, according to a
release, include games, arts &
crafts, swimming and more.
“Fun, safe, and structured envi
ronment, that teaches and rein
forces life skills and interpersonal
relationships through various rec
reational activities," the release
reads. The camp will be June 11-
29 and July 9-27, Monday through
Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
The cost for city residents is $54
per week (per child); county resi
dents: $102: out of county resi
dents: $l6B.
Bring a sack lunch each day;
drinks and afternoon snacks will
be provided.

Board changes
voting nreciicts

Journal Staff Writer
The Houston County
Board of Elections voted
Tuesday to move two poll
ing places and consolidate
several others, reducing the
number of precincts to 24.
Pending approval by the
Justice Department, the
changes will go into effect
for the next elections. The
changes are in part due to
requests from the School
Board to move some of the
precincts out of elementary
schools.
The two precincts being
moved are Centerville
Elementary to Centerville
City Hall and Eagle Springs
Elementary to Thompson
Middle School.
The other changes involve
consolidation of precincts.
Voters will be notified of the
changes by mail and notices
will also be posted at the old
sites on election day noti
fying voters where voting

Byron man hurt in tire explosion on 1-75

A 34-year-old Byron
man was critically iryured
Tuesday night when a trac
tor trailer tire he was work
ing on exploded.
According to the Houston
County Sheriffs office,

city of Perry, city of Warner Robins and city of Centerville
Jason Herbert Rowland,
34, an employee of Byron
Tire Company, was on a ser
vice call to repair a blowout
on 1-75 south of Perry. He
apparently had remounted
the tire and was putting air
into it when it exploded.

cleans up
Unhappy over vote, neighborhood
residents turn to mudslinging

A controversial car wash,
already voted down twice
by Perry’s Planning and
Zoning Board and once by
the Perry City Council,
came before council again
on Tuesday night and won
approval, after Mayor Jim
Worrall broke a 2-2 tie by
voting for the requested
special exception.
The car wash is pro
posed by Jason Holloway
for 618 General Courtney
Hodges Blvd., at the inter
section with Creekwood
Drive, and has been
opposed by residents of the
Creekwood neighborhood,
with strong backing from
Councilmembers Bobby
Glover and Phyllis Bynum-
Grace. Creekwood resident
75, according to officials,
but no lanes were closed.
The Houston County
Sheriffs office and
the Atlanta office of
Occupational Safety and
Health Administration are
looking into the incident.

WR proposes
deal to move
concrete plant

Warner Robins has pro
posed a deal to move LaFarge
from First Street to the Foy
Evans Industrial Park.
The deal, pending approv
al from LaFarge, has the
concrete company paying
$35,000 an acre for five acres
in the Foy Evans Industrial
Park with rail access, the
city paying the $17,500 com
mission to real estate agent
Bruce Elliott, and LaFarge
selling the city the current
1.54-acre First Street site
for $17,500 after it is cleared
and cleaned up. The city will
also give LaFarge an approx
imate $37,000 tax credit on
the First Street site.

hurt in wreck

Naaman Dyer is in stable
condition at a Macon hospi
tal after a Tuesday morning
accident.
Warner Robins Police were
dispatched about 11:46 a.m.
Tuesday to the area of Booth
Road and Russell Parkway
in reference to an accident
with injuries. According to
police William Neeley of
Warner Robins was driving
a red 2002 Mercury Sable
northbound across Russell
Parkway.
