Georgia Forestry
urges caution
As recovery efforts continue
in the wake of record-breaking
wildfires, the Georgia Forestry
Commission is urging residents to
“follow the local lead" concerning
July 4 fireworks.
"We've had scattered rain show
ers," said Alan Dozier, Chief of
Forest Protection for the Georgia
Forestry Commission, “but they’ve
been hit or miss. We are still in the
midst of a long-term drought and
that means the potential for wildfire
is high.”
“It's best to enjoy public fireworks
displays over a parking lot or lake,”
he added. “If your community has
canceled the public, celebrations,
conditions are likely too dry. People
should follow that lead and also
curtail backyard use of fireworks in
those situations,” he said.
Since April, wildfires in south
Georgia scorched more than half
a million acres and destroyed S4B
million in timber with clean up and
recovery efforts still under way.

For Airstream owners, community - a fantastic' time
By CHARLOTTE PERKINS
Journal Lifestyle Editor
The sunlight is glinting off thou
sands of shiny silver trailers at the
Georgia National Fairgrounds this
week, with many of the vintage
models polished to such a shine that
you can see your reflection in them.
The members of the Wally Byam
Caravan Club International come
from all across the U.S. and Canada,
and other countries around the
world.
They are proud of the legacy of
the Airstream trailers, which were
first introduced before World War
