AARP Driver Safety Program offered The Houston County AARP is offering a comprehensive driv ing course designed to update drivers aged 50 and over on the knowledge and skills of driving. Counts reportedly con fessed to several burglar ies along U.S. 41 in Perry including Hamby Chevrolet, The Westfield Schools and a Texaco under construction. He was found inside New Life of Perry Church by a Houston County Sheriffs Patrol deputy doing a busi ness check. About 4:30 a.m., Deputy Tim Jenkins was on routine patrol conducting business checks when he located a broken window at New Life of Perry Church located on HP jSj.; Journal Charlotte Perkins Amy Rimedios and Anne Sinyard are keeping Jean Rea’s latest batch of homemade goodies available at the Perry Farmer’s Market Farmers Market crowd missing Jean Rea By CHARLOTTE PERKINS Journal Lifestyle Editor The Perry Farmer’s Market just isn’t the same without her smile. As many readers know, the Journal’s popular food columnist, Jean Rea of Perry has been diagnosed with cancer, and is confined to her home except for trips to have chemotherapy. In addition to being known for her weekly column and her cookbooks, she has had a table at the downtown mar ket in Perry just about every Saturday from its begin nings four years ago, and has been one of its biggest boosters in addition to being one of its best selling ven dors, with her offerings of homemade jams and jellies, preserves, chow-chows and relishes, baked goods and cookbooks. Counts also report edly forced a door at Hamby, broke windows at the gas station under construction and at Westfield. The two were arrested following a traffic stop Friday about 11:31 p.m. and remain in the Houston County Detention Center on drug and gun charges. Fernando B. Cabret 111 of Riverdale and Lorenzo Leon Daniel of Marietta are each charged with pos session of firearm/knife during the commission of a crime and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Houston County Sheriffs Deputy Clay Chambers of the See DRUGS, page yA GDOT striping 10 local roads By RAY LIGHTNER Journal Staff Writer Some 44.91 miles of 10 Houston County roads will get new striping this fall thanks to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The Houston County projects are part of the GDOT striping contract ed for 18 Central Georgia counties to improve road markings on approximate ly 560 miles of 159 roads in Bibb, Butts, Coweta, Crawford, Fayette, Henry, Houston, Lamar, Meriwether, Monroe, Muscogee, Peach, Pike, Spalding, Sumter, Troup, Twiggs, and Upson. While the DOT’s juris diction is state routes and interstates, this project involve upgrading rural local roads. DOT See GDOT, page fA
