Davis execution despite a
request from the pope.

tentatively adopted a millage rate which will increase
property taxes by 1.61% percent.

the board’s thinking. And
he refused to comment on
whether or not he believes
Davis is innocent, despite
comments from the pope,
Hollywood celebrities and
Amnesty International.
“I am always glad to hear
from the pope,” Perdue said.
“He and I have a different
world view.”

Obituaries
GRRAI.D KENT CALHOUN
PERRY - Gerald Kent Calhoun, 62, died at the Perry
Hospital on Friday, July 20, 2007. Graveside services
were held Monday, July 23 at Perry Memorial Gardens.
Born in Cordele, Kent had lived in Perry for several months
moving from Power Springs. He was the son of the late
Paul Calhoun and Gaynell Calhoun and
grew up in Perry. A self-employed electri
cian, he was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.
Survivors include his wife Sandra Calhoun;
children, Angelia Lynn Calhoun and Darrell
Lee Calhoun; grandchildren, Cory Steven
Calhoun and Kaityn Breann Keuper; siblings,
Jeannette Ferguson, Randall Calhoun, and J.D. Calhoun.

JOEL C. DAVIS
FORT VALLEY - Joel C. Davis, 67, went home to be with
the Lord on Friday, July 20, 2007 in Ft. Valley. Funeral ser-
vices will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July
25, 2007 at Crossroads United Methodist
Church with interment in Woodlawn
Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday
at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. The family
suggests contributions to Crossroads United
Methodist Church, 1600 Main Street, Perry.
Joel, the son of the late Clarence and
Jo Davis, was raised in Perry. He was
a tool and die worker and had worked
at Blue Bird, Briggs and Stratton,
Boeing, and RAFB. He was a member
of Crossroads United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Davis;
children, Johnny Davis, Joel Davis, Jr., Hope Davis, Lisa
Davis, Sara Davis, J. J. Carpenter, and Laureen Sanders;
siblings, Ronnie J. Davis and Ken P Davis; twelve grand
children, one great grandchild; step-mother, Evelyn
Davis. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Davis.
