One number now connects Georgia’s Aging Network, services for seniors

According to a release,
there is now one single toll
free number that people can
call to connect to Georgia’s
Aging Network and services
for seniors'.
The Georgia Department
of Human Resources Division
of Aging Services launched
the new statewide access line
July 1. The number, 1-866-
55-Aging (1-866-552-4464),
according to the release,
connects Georgians auto
matically to their local Area
Agency on Aging Gateway,
Georgia Cares, the Long-
Term Care Ombudsman
program, Adult Protective
Sendees Central Intake, and
the DAS state office.
Previously, callers would
need to know which of
Georgia,s twelve AAAs
Freedom Alliance offering military scholarships

According to a release,
the Freedom Alliance
Scholarship Fund honors
the bravery and dedication
of Americans in our armed
forces who have sacrificed
life or limb in the defense
of our country by providing
college scholarships to their
children.
Freedom Alliance is now
accepting applications for
the 2007-2008 academic

number will provide easier
access to informal ion about

ber will assist DAS staff, our
Aging Network and other
partners in providing a
seamless point of contact for
service.”

The Aging Network is
a partnership of DAS, the
AAAs, and providers which
responds to the needs of
seniors, families, caregivers,
service provider agencies
and community programs
throughout the state.
Some of the services avail
able through local AAAs
include: connecting persons
to health-related programs,
transportation, housing
options and financial assis
tance; funding a variety
of services provided at the
community level that sup
port the health, well-being
and independence of older
citizens and their caregivers;
providing home-delivered
meals (Meals on Wheels)
as well as meals provided
at senior centers or other
designated sites; helping

military personnel who have
been killed or permanently
disabled (100% VA rating)
in the line of duty during
the War on Terror (Iraq,
Afghanistan, Philippines,

the Elderly Legal Assistance
Program; and funding
Senior Community Service
Employment Programs that
help low-income seniors age

employment.
Callers can now access
the Georgia Aging Network
by calling a single toll-free
number to connect to all
aging programs at 1-866-
552-4464.
Callers may also chose to
continue using program spe
cific toll-free numbers such
as those for the Georgia Cares
program, 1-800-669-
accredited college, univer
sity or vocational school.
