That inning, according to the tour

WRNL falls
to Tennessee
Still have shot
at WS finals
By DON MONCRIEF
Journal Sports Editor
After opening the Dixie
World Series at Marianna,
Fla., with three straight
wins in the Belles
Division, Warner Robins
National League’s All-
Stars lost. The squad fell
to Tennessee 9-6 Tuesday.
Despite the loss, and
according to the tourna
ments website brackets,
WRNL did not drop down
into the losers bracket per
the norm.
Instead, Tennessee
automatically earned
a finals berth. WRNL
- a message to a team
point of contact was not
returned for confirma
tion - was slated to play
Louisiana Wednesday (or
Thursday as the brackets
were unclear). Louisiana
lost to Mississippi the sec
ond day of the tourna
ment, dropped down into
the losers bracket, then
beat Texas 8-2, Alabama
11-0 and avenged the
loss to Mississippi 3-1
(Mississippi won the first
encounter 14-7). The win
ner between WRNL and
Louisiana plays Tennessee
in the finals - presumably
having to beat it twice.
The date for that match
up is listed as “to be deter
mined.”
Poole begins
horseshoe
title bid

First it was some oth
ers’ turn for the Perry
Horeshoe Pitcher’s Club
members at the World
Horseshoe Pitching
Championships, which
started July 23 and is
slated to run through
Tuesday, now it’s Chuck
Poole’s turn.
In fact, he - of those
listed - is the only from
the club left to compete.
Pitching in the Elder
Mens “30” Foot Division,
he began competition
Tuesday by going 3-2.
That had him in seventh
place but only a game out
of second with three oth
ers tied at 4-1 and two
more above him with the
same record, just better
ringer percentage. Poole’s
ringer percentage is 48
after connecting for 96
ringers out of 200 horse
shoes thrown.
He - the group - is slat
ed to pitch two more days,
five games each day.
Oscar Rednour of
Mississippi currently
leads with a 5-0 record.
