had six kills, one dig, two
assists and five aces.
“We played well against
Alcovy considering we got
off the bus and played,” said
Houston County head vol
leyball coach Tony Jones. “I
felt that we were a little
fatigued from the heat on
the bus. Then we let the first
game slip away (against Ola)
because of our own errors.
But the girls were deter
mined not to lose and that is
exactly what they did.”
The Lady Bears improved
to 4-0 on the season and
are next in action Tuesday
at Whitewater High School
against Whitewater and
Millcreek High Schools.

Horsting was never in
danger of losing the no-hit

because she issued seven
walks and hit one batter.
“I don’t think anything
bothers her,” said head
coach Rodney Culverhouse.
“She just throws another

Comes up short to Jackson but rallies to beat Perry
From staff reports

The Lady Eagles lost two

the first match to Perry
25-23 but then went on to
win 25-14 and 24-19.

What Horsting did was
induce 15 ground balls that
both she and the Hornet
infield turned into outs.
Westfield was charged with
one error, that coming in
the sixth inning, but it’s
been the unearned runs
allowed that helped build
that four-game skid.
“That was the best defense
we’ve played in two sea
sons,” said Culverhouse.
Of the seven walks
Stratford drew, the first
five came with two outs
and were spread over the
first four innings. Stratford
had both a walk and a hit
batter with two outs in
the first, but the Hornets
caught both runners in a
rundown to get the last out.
Horsting had two two-out
second-inning walks, but
used her lone strikeout to
end it.
