“They just look good
everywhere,” he said.
“I mean we know what
they’re going to do,” he
added. “They’re going to
run the option. But they
actually look better throw
ing the ball than running
it.”
On the other side of that
coin is Westfield. Happy
and content Westfield at
2-0.
“I just can’t say enough
about how proud I am of
our players,” Jones said.
“The biggest thing I’m
proud of these kids about
is that they’re all over the
field. They’re flying to
the football on defense.
Defense is what won us
that ballgame (this past
Friday against Mount de
Sales).”
If Jones has any big con
cern, it’s the fact the play
ers “flying to the football”
are the same ones. He said
right now he has all of
his skill players playing on
both sides of the football.
“I’m just hoping some
of our younger sophomore
players are going to get
better in the early part
(of the season), so that
maybe they can begin to
get in the game ... even if
it’s only so that some of
the other guys can get a
breather.”

Clearman also had two

“We put the ball in play

also got hits from Hanna

back to basics, Scott said, “...
blocking, tackling, sustain

football games.”
That - practice - applies
to Monday-Thursday, how
ever, as Scott said he would
“probably” give the group
Friday off.
That, he said, was so they
could go and scout Jackson,
who Scott added the
Panthers would also begin
preparing for this week,
in its next game. Jackson,
in Region 4A-AAA, is 0-

to Union Grove - a AAAA
school - the first week of
the season.
The Red Devils then had a
bye this past weekend.

As far as the Bears, fol
lowing what Collins said
were major changes after
the season-opening loss to
Northside, he said he felt
things began to come to
fruition late in the game
against Windsor Forest.
“Things started to click,”
he said. “We began to move
the ball on the ground and
that took pressure off the
passing game.”
“Obviously we can’t wait
until the fourth quarter to
put points on the board.
And we had some turn
overs and made some men
tal mistakes on both sides
of the ball.
“But our kids played
hard. If we can get that,
the coaches can correct the
other.”
