There are many physical differences between men, women
QUESTION: You’ve
discussed briefly some
of the physiological and
emotional differences
between the sexes. Could
you list other physical
characteristics unique to
males and females?
DR. DOBSON: Men and
women differ in countless
ways, many of which they
aren’t even conscious of.
Here are just a few of those
differences:
1. A woman has greater
constitutional vitality, per
haps because of her unique
chromosomal pattern.
Normally, she outlives a man
by three or four years in the
United States. Females sim
ply have a stronger hold on
life than males.
2. Men have a higher inci
dence of death from almost
every disease except disor
ders related to female repro
duction and breast cancer.
3. The sexes differ in skel
etal structure. Women have

Our children are our future.

and the phone.
That is unless Congress
dials up the common sense
solution. Several in that
august body think having to
renew our DNC registration
is bunk.
Now a proposed bill would
make permanent our regis
tered phone numbers. I vote
yes. Renewing every five
years is in the same family
of flimflam and fleeces as
one popular several years
ago when a company would
send you something and if
you didn’t return it within
10 days, it was yours and
you were theirs.
In the meantime, given
Congress’ penchant for the
dither and the dawdle, I’m
renewing.'
Life is too short to have
extended phone conversa
tions with people I don’t
know selling things I don’t
want at prices I can’t
afford.
The FTC gets about 3 mil
lion DNC complaints a year,
compared to nearly 600,000
in 2003 when the law went
into effect. Many violations
go unreported, too, chalked
up as simply another annoy
ance of modern society.
One of the reasons is the
ingenuity of the telemarket
ers. Some get around the
law by posing, for example,
as researchers (surveys,
charities and politicians are
exempt) who, only later in
the conversation, try to sell
you a set of steak knives,
the world’s best widget or a
time share in the Yukon.

complex and varied. The
glands work differently in
the two sexes. For example,
a woman’s thyroid is larger
and more active; it enlarges
during menstruation and
pregnancy, which makes her
more prone to goiter, and
provides resistance to cold.
It is also associated with the
smooth skin, relatively hair
less body and the thin layer
of subcutaneous fat that are
important elements in the
concept of personal beauty.
6. Women’s blood con
tains more water (20 per
cent fewer red cells). Since
these supply oxygen to the
body, she tires more easily
and is more prone to faint.
Her constitutional viability
is therefore strictly a long
range matter.

gov. Oh, and that rumor
going around about telemar

numbers? You’re right; it’s
a rumor.
Of course, telemarketers
are simply trying to earn a
living, too.
I suppose it’s literally a
numbers game. If you call
enough of them, you’ll make
a sale. If you call more, you’ll
make more sales.
While the first “no” should
be good enough, neither
should we take it personally

the pursuit of commerce.
My sense is that Americans,
however, do have a personal

we’re already a little hinky.
I say no, not interested.

Their blood pressure (10

9. Women can withstand

we can all agree that reduc
ing the number of abortions
is a good thing.
Georgia’s new informed
consent law requires (among
other things) that women
be given information about
the abortion and the risks
involved 24 hours before the
procedure. Since 2005, more
than 10,000 of the between
32,700 and 40,500 women
who talked with their doc
tor about having an abortion
decided to give birth instead.
In addition, less than 500 of
the almost 2,300 minors con

through with it.
This means there are
thousands of children liv

women were able to make
a more informed decision

DR. DOBSON: I sure do.
Requiring these phrases
is one method of remind
ing the child that his is not
a “gimme, gimme” world.
Even though his mother is

he must assume a few atti

fundamental politeness at
