CONTEST - The Houston
County Friends of the Library
are holding a photo contest.
According to Pam Yates,
FOL president, there are two
prizes of S2O coupons that
can be redeemed at the Old
Book Sale in May 2008.
“The contest involves tak
ing a picture of your Houston
County Friends book bag in
a place that is the farthest
away from Houston County
or is the most unusual place
for a book bag to find itself,”
Yates explained.” “Of course
we are trying to sell book
bags again this year, but
bags from other past years
can be eligible.”
Multiple photo entries will
be allowed and the photos
will be displayed at the Old
Book Sale. The deadline for
submission is April 20, 2008.

largest deposit share

According to a release,
Security Bank had the larg
est share of total banking
deposits in Bibb, Houston and
Jones counties for the second
year in a row. That is, accord
ing to the Federal Deposit
Insurance Corporation. The
annual “share of deposits”
report by the FDIC, for the
period ending June 30, shows
Security Banks in Macon,
Warner Robins, Perry and
Gray with $1.43 billion in
deposits, or 29.63 percent of
all banking deposits.
According to the report,
there are 21 banking com
panies insured by FDIC with
90 branch offices and $4.83
billion in deposits in Bibb,
Houston and Jones. From
June 30, 2006 to June 30,
Security increased deposits
more than any other institu
tion. Behind Security Bank
were Sun Trust with 12.52
percent share of deposits,
Atlantic Southern with 11.36
percent share, and Bank of
America with a 9.51 percent
share.
