Man gets 40 - 25 to serve - for
armed robbery, other charges

Twenty minutes. That’s how long Houston
County District Attorney Kelly Burke said
it took a jury Wednesday to
convict Bennie J. Walker
of armed robbery, kidnap
ping, aggravated Assault
(on Lyle Poling), aggravat
ed assault (on Erica Gallo)
and two counts of posses
sion of a firearm during a
crime.
On Thursday, Walker
received hjs sentencing by
WALKER
the Honorable Edward D. Lukemire. He
received 15 years to serve for the armed
robbery (count 1), 15 years to serve concur
rent for the kidnapping (count 2), 15 years

utive for the aggravated assault (count 4),
five years to serve consecutive for possession
firearm (armed robbery) and five years to
serve consecutive for possession of a fire
arm/all other counts (aggravated assault).
In all it came out to 40 years to serve 25
years in prison. He also has to pay $2,000
in a fine and fees, have no contact with the
victims or location and is banished from
Houston County.
This crime occurred Feb. 3 at the Relax
Inn in Perry.
According to a release from Burke,
Walker, 22 and from Oglethorpe and
Chris Williamson were stranded in Perry

Crawford Dickerson, 85, passed
away on Friday October 26,
2007. Funeral services were
held Tuesday in the ch'apel
of Heritage Memorial Funeral
Home. Burial will follow in
Parkway Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Dickerson was born in
Aberdeen, Miss., to the late
George and Mary Inis Richardson
Crawford and was the widow of
Joe Frank Dickerson. She was a
member of First United Methodist
Church where she was secre
tary of the Wesley Fellowship
Sunday School Class from 1965
until 2002. She was also a mem
ber of the Tombigbee Chapter of
the DAR and was a retired item
manager from Robins AFB.
Survivors include her daugh
ter Mary Dickerson (Tommy)
Bowman of Warner Robins.
Siblings: George (Ruth)
Crawford Jr., Frances (Billy)
Wilemon all of Aberdeen, Miss.,
Ben (Shelloy) Crawford of
Oxford, Miss. Grandchildren:
Tony DeCastro, Tiffany (Sean)
Flaherty and Ashley Bowman.
Twin great grandsons Graeme
