The image most com
monly associated with
Jesus is Warner Sallman’s
1940 painting “Head of
Christ.” The face of actor
Jim Caviezel, who played
Jesus in “The Passion of
the Christ” is similar to
many modern-day images
of Jesus; however, movies
disclosing the face of Christ
never seem to measure up.
The most powerful por
trayal of Christ was the
1953 movie, “The Robe,” in
which only Jesus’ sandals
and robe were seen.
Were the skull of Jesus
extant, his facial features
could be scientifically recon

Months later, when rum

remained was a small, hard,

structed; however, since
Jesus’ body was resurrect
ed, this option is not pos
sible. Anatomical evidence
from the Shroud of Turin,
reputed to be the burial
cloth of Jesus, has allowed
researchers to produce an
image of Jesus. The image
in the shroud is likened to
, a photographic negative
because the occupant’s face
was burned into the cloth
by a powerful force like the
electricity associated with
lightening. The shroud’s
occupant is estimated to be
5’ 1 11/2” to 6’ 2” tall.
In existence since medi
eval times is a letter pur
portedly written by Publius
Lentulus, Governor of
Judea, to Tiberius Caesar
(14-37 AD) to provide the
Roman emperor an eyewit
ness description of Jesus.
According to Lentulus:
(1) Jesus was a tall man
with a well-shaped body,
black clinker that rattled
thinly as he shook the jar.
Bringing the jar down
stairs and thoughtfully
pondering the situation,
the man decided he must
do something to renew the
Christmas spirit.
Before going to bed that
night, he got a little brown
paper bag and filled it with
a variety of miscellaneous
items he had not used for
months.
During the days that fol
lowed, the miscellaneous
items were distributed as
the man went about his
daily duties. A pinch of Good
Cheer here; a wish of Good
Will there; some Charity,
some Thoughtfulness - some
Love.

Lentulus summarized:
“Jesus was a man of
extraordinary beauty and
perfection, surpassing the
children of men in every
sense.” Although artist
Warner Sallman claimed
the image of Christ came
to him in a dream, the
facial features in his
famous painting correlate
closely to those detailed
in Lentulus’ letter.
Revelation 22: 4 states
that the inhabitants of
heaven will see Jesus.
There we will observe
Him in his full splendor
and glory. Nothing in this
life can compare with the
wonderment and awe of
seeing the Lord face-to
face.
And, lo! One night he
came home to find his jar
of Christmas spirit glowing
as brightly as ever, shedding
its radiance throughout the
house and into the dark
night beyond. From there
on, he has maintained the
Christmas spirit and kept it
aglow. (Source Unknown)
