noise. What can I do?
Listening in noise - what
a problem for everyone! We
know that those with good
hearing have problems hear
ing in noise. When you are
in noise, you understand
only about 85 percent of
what is said. Adults can fill
in the blanks with that much
information. When you have
hearing loss, your ability to
filter out background noise
is compromised and your
ability to understand is also
reduced.
So if you have only one
hearing aid, you now can
understand only 50 percent
of the message, and if you
have two you might be able
to understand 75 precent of
the conversation.
These numbers sound real
ly depressing, so what can
you do. The best solution is
to realize that you will not
understand everything. You
need to use your eyes, look
for facial changes, know the
topic of conversation and ask
for clarification. In addi
tion you can use such devices
as MyLink, from Phonak,
which brings in the sound
directly into your ears with-

ways to 'make the noise less

such as making sure that
you can see the speaker’s

hearing and listening again
can occur.
