■ BONAIRE MS CAREER
DAY - Bonaire Middle School will
host its 11th annual Career Day
for eighth-grade students Feb. 1.
The event will take place on the
Connections Hall and in the gym
nasium between 9:30 a.m. and
2:30 p.m. Students will have the
opportunity to hear a variety of
speakers talk about their careers
in law enforcement, medicine,
athletics, art, journalism, business
and forestry. In addition, several
local businesses, service organi
zations and colleges will exhibit
and have representatives present
to answer students’ questions.

Man gets
life for
robbery

tenced Monday, according to
a release, to a life sentence
for a bank
robbery that
occurred
last year.

on Warren Drive in Warner
Robins. Judge Katherine K.
Lumsden sentenced Mack.
According to the release, he
will be eligible for parole in
no less than 30 years. Chief
Assistant District Attorney
Jason Ashford prosecuted
the case. Mack was repre
sented by Assistant Public
Defender Ben Willis.
According to the release, on
June 2, 2007, Mack entered
the bank and presented a
note to the teller demanding
cash, stating he had a gun
and adding: “no alarms.” He
then left but not before sur
veillance cameras recorded
his picture. It was distribut
ed throughout the local area
and soon after, he was identi
fied and arrested.
“Mr. Mack felt that a few
dollars was worth risking
30 years of his life behind
bars- he was wrong,” said
Ashford. “We hope that this
sentence sends a message
that Houston County will
punish all armed robber
ies, even when they don’t
present a gun but just claim
they have one. The Warner
Robins Police Department,

amount of credit for quickly
identifying Mack and getting
him off the streets.”

■ WRPD, HANDGUN
BASICS FOR WOMEN - The
Warner Robins Police Department
will be conducting a course on
Handgun Basics for Women. The
class will be held at the Warner
Robins Police Department Firing
Range. The class will consist
of two classroom sessions and
one session on the firing range.
The classroom sessions 'will be
approximately two hours and will
cover topics about handgun safe
ty, the basics of shooting and laws
concerning handguns.
The range session will be
approximately four hours and will
consist of shooting exercises. You
must attend all sessions to com
plete the course.
The dates and times are: Feb.
25, 6:30 p.m.; Feb. 27, 6:30 p.m.
and March 1, 8 a.m.
The cost of the course is $25.

cial dairy heifers, and breeding
ewes. Admission to the livestock
shows is free to the public.
