for shooting the basketball as both
teams came up with one 3-pointer
made each. But Perry steadily main
tained a lead, up 19-11 at halftime
and 39-28 after the third quarter.
The Panthers also had its typi
cal balance in scoring as Antonio
Hubbard led the way with 10
points. Roderick Jones and Michael
Walker each scored eight and Casey
Hayward seven.
The Perry girls basketball team
came off a rough weekend to com
pete hard against rival Peach County.
But the Lady Panthers could hold a
lead and fell 57-43. The Peach girls
led 27-24 at halftime and 39-34 after
three quarters.
Shay Newberry and Kenisha
Wilson each scored 10 points for
the Lady Panthers while Lay Lay
Rountree had eight.
In Albany on Tuesday, one
Westfield team had a Region 3-AAA
basketball game while the other
didn’t. The Lady Hornets played
Sherwood Christian’s girls in a game
that will not count in the region
standings and won 56-12.
Hanna Jones 21 points and four
steals while Carly Albritton had
nine points. But Westfield needed
a win on Tuesday to improve its lot
on 3-AAA, and the Hornets got it
against Sherwood 63-46.
“We started out very aggressively
and the press was very successful,”
said head coach Jake Walls. “We
were up by 17 at halftime. Our
defensive pressure was outstanding
causing a lot of turnovers that lead
to easy lay-ups.”
Keenan Malone scored 19 and
John Peake 17. The Hornets are 2-
1 in region and 14-7 overall, which
equals the team’s win total from all
of last season.

The score was 42-37, Demonettes, heading into the final quarter.
Tift County battled back to retake the lead early inside the fourth
quarter, 43-42, but Shanerica Parks, who had 7, tied it again with a
free throw with just over five minutes left to play.
Again the Lady Blue Devils took the lead and this time never
relented. Their biggest stretch was five, 51-46, with just under two
minutes left to play. Parks finally cut it to one, 54-53, with a basket
with 22 seconds showing.
Even better it appeared, the Demonettes went to the charity stripe
shooting two. As luck appeared to also have it, that followed a trip
to the line by a Lady Blue Devil, who missed both shots. But, so did
Symone Wilkerson for Warner Robins. Although to her credit she
later hit two free throws in the overtime period, finished with 13 and
was playing at least bruised at that point - having left late in the third
following a hard hit, and returned.
Nevertheless, the Lady Devils took over possession at that point
and Warner Robins was forced to foul. Tift County’s shooter - the
Lady Blue Devils still shooting the one-and-one - missed. Wilkerson
grabbed the rebound, down the court fed it to LeShoure. LeShoure in
turn hit a 3-pointer just as the buzzer sounded to make it 56-all and
send it to overtime.
Unfortunately for Warner Robins and its fans, however, the Lady
Blue Devils got off to a better start in the extra period. They scored
the first three points and then held the Demonettes just barely at bay.
Not that the home squad didn’t have its chances in the waning sec
onds. With the score 61-60 with approximately 30 seconds remaining,
the Demonettes missed, got the rebound, was fouled and then missed
both free throws. Tift County turned it right back over to them on the
ensuing possession but the Demonettes took two more empty shots at
the net. Finally, on the last of those, the Blue Devils’ Kaneisha Brown,
grabbed the rebound and sprinted the distance of the floor - much as
she did most of the night - to the basket. Her layup gave Tift County
the final 63-60 margin with six seconds on the clock. Warner Robins
took one last shot at long-range but it was off the mark.
DEMONS
As far as the boys, Warner Robins led all of the first quarter - led
11- at the break - and about the first two minutes of the second. The
Demons, after the Blue Devils had held a small lead during the middle
part of the quarter, led at the half 20-18. Warner Robins then used a
12- run - part of it extending into the fourth quarter -to lead 40-34
after three, and 42-34 with just over six minutes left to play.
But, Tift County answered that with a 9-0 run to cut it to one, 44-
43, about midway through.
The Demons stretched it to five, 49-44, with just over three minutes
left to play, but by the time the two got inside a minute, it was just
one, 49-48. Jordan Sanders, who finished the night with 10 points
- two others, Ricky Ritter and Kenny Fluellan matched that mark
- appeared to make it a three-point margin with his basket.
But, the officials took it away and sent him to the free-throw line
instead. Warner Robins was just in the one-and-one at that point.
Sanders, with about 25 seconds showing at that point, missed. The
Blue Devils, after some scuffling around on the floor, finally got pos
session with five seconds on the clock.
They called timeout to play for the last shot but when they inbound
ed they also traveled. It still wasn’t over, though. The Demons
attempted to inbound by throwing it over the head of all of the Blue
Devil players. That worked but the ball sailed out of bounds with 2.2
still showing. Plus, Tift County was able to inbound it on their end
of the floor. Warner Robins knocked it out of bounds with just over a
second left but the visitor still got their shot off. It just missed.
