m WRPD CITIZEN POLICE
ACADEMY - The Warner Robins
Police Department is now taking
registration for the next Citizen
Police Academy. The academy is
a 12-week program. The classes
will be Monday evenings beginning
March 3 and running through May
19. The classes wilt meet at the
Warner Robins Police Department
Training Center located on Stalnaker
Ave. off Highway 247 South. The
purpose of the academy, according
to a release, is not to teach mem
bers of the community to be police
officers. It is an opportunity for them
to gain a better understanding of the
responsibilities and challenges of
the police profession. Participants
learn about the criminal justice sys
tem and how the police department
to addresses community problems.
They also learn about the different
units and get to experience some of
the training. They also are allowed
to ride on patrol with the officers.
You do not have to be a citizen of
Warner Robins to participate. Some
of the' other subjects include: The
hiring process, traffic law and acci
dent investigation, criminal, drug and
crime-scene investigations, canine
operations, use of force and defen
sive tactics and firearms.

Man gets 17 for offenses

Travis Lawrence, 40, from
Warner Robins, was convict
ed of burglary and obstruc
tion of an officer.
He was sentenced
Wednesday by Judge
Katherine K. Lumsden in the
Superior Court of Houston
County to 20 to serve 17
years in prison without the
possibility of parole.
Lawrence has a criminal
record dating back to 1985,
which includes burglary,
robbery, forgery, and theft.
Under Georgia Law, defen
dants with three prior felony
convictions can be sentenced
to serve their time without
parole. He’s had seven prior
felony convictions.
On May 17, 2007, Warner
Teen pleads guilty, gets 15

18, of 1213 Johnson Road
in Warner Robins pleaded
guilty Wednesday in Houston
County Superior Court to a
three-count indictment charg
ing him with armed robbery,
burglary and possession of a
firearm based on a home inva
sion robbery that occurred
back in late December 2006.
Judge Katherine K. Lumsden
sentenced Billingsley to 35
years and required 15 of those
years to be served in prison
without parole. She further
banished him from Houston
County and required he have
with those in attendance. It is slated
for Feb 16, 1 p.m., at Trinity United
Methodist Church, 129 S. Houston

hold a health fair Feb. 19 from 11
a.m.-4 p.m. Everyone is invited
to this free event. The Red Cross
is sponsoring a blood drive, rep

Health Department and Vocational
Rehabilitation Center will be attend
ing, GMC-Warner Robins nursing
students will be offering free blood
pressure checks, trainers from Edge
Fitness will provide advice on nutri
tion and exercise and the Warner
Robins Massage Clinic will raffle off
10 free massages.

identified as Lawrence.
Based on the investiga
tion, Det. Karen Stokes cre
ated a photographic line-up
of six persons matching the
description. Hunt picked
out Lawrence’s picture and
signed warrants for his
arrest.
