Traffic stop leads to drug arrests
Special to the Journal
The Houston County
Sheriffs Office Interstate
Criminal Enforcement
Unit, according to a release,
discovered a large quantity
of marijuana and cocaine
after a routine traffic stop
Monday night on Interstate
75. That in turn resulted
in the arrest of two Atlanta
residents.
According to the release,
at around 9:52 p.m. Monday,
Dep. Clay Chambers of the
ICE Unit made a traffic stop
on a 2007 Dodge Caliber
(rental car) for a traffic
violation on Interstate 75
near Mile Marker 134 north
bound.
After Chamber’s K-9 part
ner, “Esso” gave a positive
alert to the odor of narcotics
on the vehicle, a search was
conducted.
During the search depu
ties discovered around a
half of pound of marijuana,
approximately a half of an
ounce of cocaine, and rough
ly $1,500 in cash.
The street value on the
illegal drugs was estimated
over $2,200. Also inside the

Matt Koch, according to
a release, entered a plea of

was sentenced to 15 years to

special conditions, accord

that he commit no crimes of
theft, fraud or violence once
he is released from prison.
The circumstances revolv
ing around Koch’s sentenc
ing are as follows. On July
29, 2007, he and two of his
friends devised a plan to
“rob” the Winn Dixie while
he, an employee, was cashier
ing. To that end, Brandon
Spencer entered the store
and “robbed” Koch of the
$467.
Koch then waited for
Spencer to leave the area
before telling his boss that
he had been robbed. Koch
also gave the police a false
description of the “robber”
in an attempt to lead the
police on a wild goose chase.
Fortunately, according to the
release, the WRPD detec
tives were pretty astute and
they quickly discovered this
scheme, resulting in the
arrest of all three young
men.
