"Where neighbors meet"
HHJ history
50 years ago:
Perry, it's reported via economic
channels is "booming.”
“We re in a boom right now,”
says one Perry businessman in
reaction to the news. “With this
year a lot larger than 1957.”
At the other end of the spec
trum is reportedly Moultrie. In fact,
it's apparently so bad one busi
nessman from that area is quoted
as saying this: "Now that I know
where business has gone, I’m
going to set up a branch store.”
Where? This is his reported
answer - based on the previous
statement about it being so bad:
“Hel!”
30 years ago:
More than 500 farmers, along
with politicians from Atlanta and
Washington gather in Perry for
a rally to say they were “fed up
with low prices and empty prom
ises." Clyde Fulford, the farmer’s
keynote speaker, lambasts then
President Jimmy Carter and Sen.
Herman Talmadge's reported five
point farm plan.
"They’re already talking about
a library to house Jimmy's papers
when he leaves the White House,”
Fulford says. “Well, if he doesn't
do right by the farmers, he’s going
to be able to house those papers
in a country toilet."
10 years ago:
Two Perry juveniles are charged
with doing more than SIB,OOO in
damage to a recreation vehicle
park constructin site. It is reported
to be the fourth such incident at
the site.
Also, Middle Georgia Technical
Institute moves to a new 163,000
square foot facility located on an
83-acre campus along Cohen
Walker Drive - just south of Ga.
96 and Perry City Hall gets its own
“weather station”, according to the
newspaper article to “help the city
track the use of natural gas, as
well as have detailed reports on
weather conditions."

A Poker Run organized by Bill Hathcock raised more than S4OO for the Perry Animal Shelter Saturday. The Poker run started at Leta’S in
Downtown Perry where participants registered and could buy one or more poker hands. The rider drew a card at registration and proceeded
to other points in Middle Georgia to draw other cards for the hand. At the end of the ride, the rider with the best poker hand won. Pictured are
all the registered riders along with Davis Cosey and Wendy Leonard, big supporters of the shelter. The group finished the ride back at Data’s
where they were served Big D’s BBQ at The Rib Shack provided by Cosey. Mike and Kelly Hamsley provided soft drinks to the riders. If anyone
would like to make a sizeable donation to the Perry Animal Shelter they can contact Hanna Barrett at 478-338-0199. For more, see 2AJ
