Museum adds
OV-10 aircraft
Special to the Journal
The Museum of Aviation,
according to a release, took
possession this week of a
Vietnam-era forward air
control aircraft known as
the OV-IO Bronco.
The twin-turbo prop twin
seat short takeoff and land
ing aircraft was used in
combat during the Vietnam
War and also saw action fly
ing tactical air control mis
sions in Germany and Korea
during the 70s and 80s. It
was retired in 1991 and was
acquired by the Museum
of Aviation from another
Museum in Amarillo, Texas.
A total of 157 OV-lOs were
produced for the U.S. Air
Force from 1967 to 1969 by
North American Rockwell.
The Bronco’s missions
included observation, for
ward air control, helicopter
escort, armed reconnais
sance, gunfire spotting,
utility and limited ground
attack.
It was equipped with four
machine guns in the fuse
lage plus 3,600 lbs. of exter
nal stores. Adding to its ver
satility is a rear fuselage
compartment with a capac
ity of 3,200 pounds of cargo,
five combat-equipped troops
or two litter patients and a
medical attendant.
The museum plans to
restore the aircraft to its
Vietnam-era paint scheme
and markings and display it
along side other Vietnam-era
aircraft in its collection like
the UH-1 helicopter gunship,
and the O-IE Birddog and
0-2 A Skymaster forward air
control aircraft.

Man gets 7 years,
chance to kick the habit
Special to the Journal
As District Attorney Kelly
Burke said, this is one man
WHITEST
Robins, pleaded guilty to
burglary Friday in Houston
Superior Court. He was sen
tenced by Judge Edward D.
Lukemire in the Superior
Court of Houston County to
20 years to serve seven years
in prison without parole. He
was also banished from the
county while on probation.
Whitest, according to a
release from Burke’s office,
has a criminal record dating
back to 1990, which includes
burglary and robbery.
Under Georgia Law, defen
dants with three prior felony
convictions can be sentenced
to serve their time without
parole, however, accord
ing to Burke’s release, the
length of their prison sen
tence is still up to the judge.
Whitest had six prior felony
convictions.
Circumstances lead
ing up to his sentencing
are as follows. On Nov. 15,
2007, Warner Robins Police
Department Officer Jerry
Neese responded to a store
alarm at Rocky’s Quick Stop
on Green Street in Warner
Robins. Surveillance video
showed Whitest breaking
out a window and climbing
into the store.

Whitest then stole ciga
rette packs and cartons
before climbing back out the
window early that morning.
Detective Karen Stokes
and Detective Brad Mules
identified the subject as
Whitest and interviewed
him, resulting in a confes
sion. Lt. John Lanneau was
also able to match the fin
gerprints from the broken
window to him.
“I only got a couple of
cigarettes,” Whitest was
reported as saying during the
interview, ‘“cause I needed
some ...”. Later, according to
the release, he indicated he
was concerned the district
attorney Alight not look at it
as “no big deal.”
“He’s right,” Burke said.
“There are no ‘small -time’
burglaries in Houston
County for career criminals
such as this. We all know
that smoking is bad for your
health.
“Mr. Whitest is about to
find out that Georgia prisons
are smoke free buildings, so
who really
needed to
kick the
habit ... or
rather “hab
its.”

This case was not han
dled as a routine case by
WRPD and, in fact, Stokes
and Mules did a great job
following up on every lead to
build an airtight case, Burke
added. “From the responding
officers to crime scene techs
to the detectives, WRPD is
to be congratulated on a job
well done.”
Whitest is currently being
held at the Houston County
Detention Center awaiting
transport by the Georgia
Department of Corrections.
