Board hears blast oa warning system

The fact Houston County needs a capa
ble severe weather alert system has not
been lost on local officials. In fact it was a
topic of discussion even before a tornado
struck Atlanta and other areas of the mid
state this past weekend to leave a stark
reminder.
“I don’t think it’s a question of whether
it’s something we need or not,” said
Warner Robins City Councilman Terry
Horton during Wednesday’s Vision 2020
advisory board meeting, and to plenty of
head nods in agreement. “It’s a question
of how we’re going to do it and what it’s
going to cost.”

According to a release

arrests were the result of an
ongoing investigation con

Sheriffs Office and the GBI
after Doris Worrell was shot
and killed at Jon’s Sports
Park.

“We’re moving in that direction (of
making it a reality) and we’re going to
keep moving in that direction until it
happens,” added County Commission and
Vision 2020 Chairman Ned Sanders.
However from an outsiders viewpoint,
moving in that direction right now, briefed
Fire Chief Jimmy Williams, at least feels
a bit like standing still.
“(We’re) trying to find some grants and
other funding sources to come into the
county or the cities so we don’t have that
expense outright,” Williams said. But, he
added, to date that has yet to yield any
results.
“So far we have been unable to find
