30 years ago:
Bill Barnett appears before
Houston County Commissioners
to report on the benefits of the
prototype 2,427 square foot solar
energy home he built on the
banks of Lake Sylvan in Kathleen.
According to the news report, elec
tric bills at that time for the same
amount of space were more than
S2OO a month. His was $32.18.
Barnett says he will build 150 of
the Advanced Living Construction
and Operating Techniques units
this particular year (1978) and 500
in 1979. His overall goal, accord
ing to the news report, was to
obtain a grant to build an entire
community of ALCOT homes.
10 years ago:
Two region crowns go to county
teams. Perry wins it in 3-AA base
ball. They do so by winning a one
game playoff 3-2 - and that took
10 innings - against Jackson.
Westfield, on the other hand,
repeats as 1-AAA title holders in
golf.

The new 2008 Miss Dogwood
Queens and courts were named
Saturday at Perry High School.
Two large crowds watched as 67
girls competed for the six Dogwood
Queen titles.
The Perry High School cheerlead
ers sponsored the pageants. Finalist

advisory board - in this particular
case (the scenario above) is to place
a terminal (for passenger aircraft
such as the aforementioned air
lines, as well as cargo aircraft like

and others like DHL and UPS) at
the north end of RAFB.
And if it all sounds too far
fetched, know this: A similar opera
tion has already been established at
Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and
Charleston AFB in South Carolina.

fighting
From staff reports
Warner Robins police made
seven arrests Thursday on
dog fighting charges.
According to police,
the incident took plaee in
a wooded area between
Francis Street and North
Davis Drive.
Sgt. Craig Clifton, accord
ing to the police, was the
first officer on the scene and
directed other officers to the
location, where a chase of
the suspects ensued.
Arrested on charges of
contributing to the delin
quency of a minor, dog fight
ing and obstruction of an
officer were Shawn Travis
Hightower, 30, Januaurus
Vonques Tharpe, 17, and
Terrance Marquez Prater,
19.
Additionally, four juveniles
were charged with dog fight
ing and obstruction of an
officer. They were released
to their parents.
The dogs were captured
and taken to a local veteri
narian for treatment, accord
ing to the police report.
