Recycling efforts help
Perry Animal Shelter
By CHARLOTTE PERKINS
Journal Staff Writer
Recycling your empty aluminum soft drink cans is one
of the easiest ways to help the dogs and cats at the Perry
Animal Shelter.
Sgt. Michael Hamsley of the Perry Police Department,
says he was surprised the first time he took a small load
of donated cans to be recycled and got more than S6O. It
may not sound like much, until you consider how much
puppy chow it will buy, or how it adds up for purchasing
items like new cleaning supplies or pet vaccines.
The recycling trailer, built by Hamsley, is located
between Ball and Washington Street near the entrance
to the Perry Fire Department. Hamsley says his team of
volunteers will be happy to provide cans and plastic bags
for businesses that want to help with th recycling effort.
The Friends of the Perry Animal Shelter, better known
as FOPAS, is also in need of volunteers to help with
the care of animals, including home-fostering, and with
maintaining the shelter. For more information, call
Animal Control Officer Hannah Barrett at 988-2888.

be a possibility of going at it with a two-pronged approach...

What's going
on with
impact fees?
By CHARLOTTE
PERKINS
Journal Staff Writer
The Chambers of
Commerce in both Perry
and Warner Robins, as well
as realtors, developers and
those in the building trades
have been heard from on
the subject of impact fees
for Perry.
So has the advisory com
mittee appointed by the
Perry City Council, with
the majority of that group
voting not to have impact
fees at all, and then - when
asked for recommendations
in the event that impact fees
were imposed, made sugges
tions limiting the growth
area where they would be
imposed, and recommend
ing only one new fire station
and no parks.
Listening to those groups,
the impression might be that
impact fees aren’t going to
happen.
Don’t bet on it. The
question of whether
