Exercise marks CERT's final test
By DON MONCRIEF
Journal Managing Editor
Weathermen and women
and/or planners can’t predict
by 100 percent when and/or
where a tornado and/or nat
ural-type disaster will strike
but the Houston County
Fire Department can.
In fact, they’re not only
predicting one today, and
they will be right, they’re
predicting exactly what time
it will hit and where.
OK, so maybe the fact
they’ve written up the little
mock scenario slated to begin
at 10 a.m. at their train
ing ground off Industrial
Blvd. helps, the statement
remains true.
The exercise will be the
final exam - the practical
application - for 27 vol
unteers from around the
county who make up the
Community , Emergency
Response Team.
To that end, it will include
the usual mock victims/
chaos/tests.

she said, planned to return
for a later class and finish
up.
The classroom train

each Tuesday from 6-8:30
p.m. (plus Saturday’s class).
According the fire depart

of eight modules that cov

fire safety, medical opera

disaster psychology, terror

to the Sheriff’s Office. He is
being charged with: Serious
injury by vehicle, reckless
driving, disregarding a traf

of license restriction and
defective equipment.
He is currently in the
Houston County Sheriffs
Office detention center,
awaiting bond.
Dep. Patrick Alexander is
the primary investigator for
this vehicle crash.
The job of the CERT, team
members’ mission, Holland
said, is “Basically stepping

care of them (those hurt
and/or in need) until they
arrive.”
