to hold golf tourney
The Fifth Annual Warner
Robins High School
Touchdown Club golf tourna
ment will be held at Waterford
Golf Club today. It is set to
begin with a noon lunch, fol
lowed by a 1:30 p.m. shotgun
start. The format is four-man
scramble. The entry fee is
S4OO per team. Cash prizes
will be awarded for first, sec
ond and third gross and net.

WR rec to sign up for
football, cheerleading
The Warner Robins
Recreation Department will
begin registration for the
2008 youth football/cheer
leading program beginning
July 12 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
Registration will continue
Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5
p.m. until leagues are filled.
These programs are for boys
and girls ages 5-12.
The child’s weight will be
required at the time of regis
tration for football. A birth cer
tificate is required upon regis
tration unless it is currently on
file. Registration fees are as
follows: Football: SSO (city),
$lO3 (county) and $177 (out
of county); cheerieading: "
$75 (city), SIOO (county),

WR preps for annual
cross country series
Warner Robins High School
is in the midst of its eighth
Annual Middle Georgia Cross
Country Summer Series. As
per the norm, it will be held at
Pearl Stephens Elementary
School in Warner Robins.
One race has already been
held. The rest are as follows:
July 10 - 4,000 meters and
July 17 - 5,000 meters. Each
race is slated to start at 7:30
p.m. and Erpelding said there
would be awards in the fol
lowing categories for the top
five in each age group male
and female: 14 and under,
15-19 and 20 and over. The
entry fee is $7. Registration is
the day of the race. Contact

Second Baptist signing
up for Upward soccer
Second Baptist Church of
Warner Robins is beginning
Upward soccer registration.
Early registration has begun.
The cost is $75 per child.
After June 30, the cost is SBS.
The deadline for registration
is July 10. Soccer shorts are
included in registration price.
Evaluations will begin July 7.
Practices will being Aug. 4.
The first game will be Aug. 23.

Landings to host Little
Linkers golf clinic
A Little Linkers clinic will be
held at the Landings July 1-3.
It is open to children ages
5-7 and will be held each
day from 9-10:30 a.m. The
cost is $65 for members and
$75 for nonmembers. The

bag, event-unique T-shirt and
more.

In order to prevent any
sleepless nights and nerve
racking guilt among the
sports staff (Don and I) of
the Home Journal, allow
me to use some of this
space to fill a gap from the
recently concluded school
sports year. Right now we
are in the middle of hon
oring the top soccer and
baseball players from the
spring high school seasons.
However, due to circum
stances beyond our control,
we skipped over an All-
Houston County list from
basketball season.
So now, I will present
the 2007-2008 All-Houston
County basketball teams
for both boys and girls. We
had some outstanding sea
sons on the hardwood, and
I cannot let any deserving
player go unrecognized.
This will just be a list
of names with no statis
tics, impact statements or
other miscellaneous infor
mation. The teams, which
will be first through third,

The finals results for the
Georgia Athletic Directors
Association’s Dodge
Directors Cup have been
tabulated. The Cup is a
measure/recognition tool
for “all” of a high school’s
accomplishements in regard
to sports.
In AAAAA, Warner
Robins finished 20th over
all, with 306.25 points, while
Houston County was 43rd
with 120. That was out of 69
schools earning any points -
points are only awarded for
first qualifying for state and
then increased from there.
Sixty of Warner Robins’
points came via the golf
team’s fourth-place finish
at state. The school also
received 40 each for the boys
and girls soccer teams, the
girls softball team and the
girls tennis team earning an
Elite Eight berth.
Houston County earned
40 of its points, the most of
any one group, via the boys
soccer team finishing in the
AAAAA

her sixth place finish from
the 2007 Championship,
turned in a final-round 76
after carding a pair of 74s
in the first two rounds.
Wright, meanwhile, playing
one group ahead, scored a 72
in the final round - including
five birdies and six bogeys
- to tie Fears at 224 (78-74-
72).
Stackhouse, who started
final eight.
For just the boys, the
Demons were 22nd with
136.25 points - tied with
Newnan - and the Bears
were again 43rd with 60.
Over on the girls side, the
Demonettes finished the
year 20th, while the Lady
Bears were 41st.
In AAAA, Northside also
finished 20th overall. That
was out of 81 schools earn
ing points.
For the boys, the Eagles fin
ished 16th with 140 points,
while the Lady Eagles were
21st with 100.
One hundred of Northside ’ s
points, the maximum award
ed, came via its repeat state
championship in football.
The girls basketball team,
on the other hand, earned
40 for its trip to the Elite
Eight.
Finally, Perry finished
27th overall for AAA with
100 points. That was out of
68 schools earning points.
The Panthers accounted
for all of those. Their high
est tally came in football

In a bit of news regarding
the Dodge Directors Cup,
the GADA board, according
to its website has decided to
revise the scoring system on
a trial basis over the next
two years.
“Since the next two years
represents a reclassification
term this is the perfect time
to make this change,” their
website reads.
To that end, they will base
their scoring on the U.S.
Sports Academy Director’s
Cup system used by the
NCAA.
Non-bracketed sports
scoring, with points avail
able starting out at 10 and
moving on up to 100 are:
Gymnastics, track, golf,
swimming, wrestling (tradi
tional), cross-country, cheer
leading-and riflery.
