Ten honorees, according
to a release, were induct
ed into the 2008 Houston
County Teacher Hall of
Fame recently.
The second annual cere
mony, according the release,
inducted “extraordinary
classroom teachers who
made a significant differ
ence in the lives of their
students.”
The following teachers
were inducted:
• Dorothy Naomi Jones
•Mildred Bynum
Montgomery
• Pearl J. Stephens
• Carolyn Coleman
Smith
• W. Earl Marshall, 111
• Thelma Eleanor Ross
• Alberta H. Moody
• Gervaise Wynn Perdue
• Mabel Ellis Weaver
• Eva Nelson Holland.
These teachers were
selected by the Teacher
Hall of Fame committee
because, according to the
release, they: upheld exem
plary standards of behav
ior and ethics; exhibited
leadership; were enthusi
astic about teaching and
learning; demonstrat
ed competency in their
subject matter; worked
well with colleagues and
administrators; and consis
tently sought to encour
age, inspire and motivate
students toward greater
accomplishments.

to have 20 years or more
of classroom experience in
Houston County. Degrees
and extracurricular activi
ties are also considered.
“To be inducted into
the Hall of Fame is a very
high honor indeed,” said
Superintendent David
Carpenter during opening
remarks. “Ten teachers
were selected after evalu
ating years of service and
letters of support from stu
dents, colleagues and those
who knew firsthand the
significance of the educa
tor.”
