Billy Townsend, who runs the pressroom for the Houston Home Journal was the Summit Super Pro winner at
Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds last Saturday. Townsend pushed Charlie McCulloch to a breakout to secure the
victory. He reached a top speed of 134.47 and crossed in 9.831 (with a dial-in of 9.83 and reaction time of .014).
Townsend is fourth from the left on the back row. Holding his S6OO winnings is daughter Allison. Even though
she’s won once this year and collected money three times, she’s never offered to share her winnings, joked Billy.
However, with this: “She said, 7 want some of it,’” he laughed. “She said, 7 need a new pair of racing shoes.’”

Undefeated, but now No. 3
in the nation. Why? Had to
be that word again: anticipa
tion. The anticipation is that,
the Bulldogs are obviously
vulnerable and, with that
monster schedule looming,
primed for a loss. So, might
as well not make our fall
from grace so steep.
This time, they finally got
one right. Alabama came to
town Sept. 27 and ... when
your defense doesn’t have
any D (as in discipline) and
your offense has no ... shon
(took the K right out of his
name), well, you know hap
pened.
Georgia is right now sit
ting at No. 10 in the nation.
Alabama, by some counts,
was held to those same stan
dards after barely squeaking
by Kentucky last weekend.
But the Tide has one thing
the Bulldogs don’t have, and
that’s an impressive victory
against somebody good.
And here I was wonder
ing how it would reflect on
Georgia if Southern Cal
were to put 50 on the board
and shut out Arizona State
(whom the Dogs just beat
27-10, ho hum). It could
still happen, and we could
still see Alabama again in
Atlanta, because at this time
last year, nobody had to be
feeling good about Georgia’s
direction.
I was anticipating another
middle-of-the-road Florida
bowl after last year’s loss to
UT. Now, I have to wonder if
we are going to see another
non-BCS group like BYU, or,
if Cotton Bowl people are
eager to see Dallas native
Matthew Stafford playing in
their classic. That would at
least mean facing a Big 12
team, and even SEC diehards
would have to admit that’s
looking like a pretty tough
gridiron conference.
One thing I don’t antici
pate is another Black Out or
any other gimmick for anoth
er five years or so. We might
want to start rethinking those
No. 13 Commodores from
Nashville as a Homecoming
opponent.
