City of WR: 'ln-hoAse'
work saves millions
By DON MONCRIEF
Journal Managing Editor
Millions ... and counting.
That’s the estimated sav
ings Montie Walters of the
City of Warner Robins’
water, gas and sewer depart
ments, told the city council
that staff fijpm those depart
ments had saved the city by
doing as much work as they
could “in house”.
In the sewer department,
Walters, who said they had
about 20 projects going in
that area, pointed out the
city was laying the pipe for
the Macon State College
expansion.
But instead of ordering
new pipe, as he said they
typically do but added they
wefe trying to change that
process to again save more
money, he said they had
scoured the city and found
the pipe, manholes, etc, they
needed.
“We’ve probably on this
project alone saved $25,000,”
Police arrest three on
armed robbery charges
Special to the Journal
According to a release, officers of the Warner Robins Police
Department responded to Buffalo Bob’s restaurant Friday
at about 10:45 a.m. in reference to an armed robbery.
According to the release, the victim, Donna Dobin, was
working at the restaurant, which is located at 726-D North
Davis Drive, when three black males entered with hand
guns.
The suspects took an undisclosed amount of currency and
fled the scene. Dobin sustained no injuries.
Officers made contact with the three males on a side
street off of North Davis Drive and recovered the money

he said.
In regard to gas, he first
gave an update on the Peach
Shaving Plant, a backup
plant the city is in the pro
cess of selling. He said the
company that is buying it
has filled six trucks full
of gas and should have it
removed by the end of the
week - with plenty more left
to go.
“That was a big deal,”
he said about the sale, “at
almost a million for the
plant.”
The sale of the plant also
becomes important in anoth
er way, he added. Remember
the “scoured the city”?
That’s because Walters said
currently they have pipes
and such stored all over the
city. Once the plant’s lot is
vacated - a nice, flat area
he said they can lock/secure
- it’s going to be used as a
staging area to round up and
store all that inventory.
