teaching of anything besides
creationism. The fictional char
acters Matthew Harrison Brady,
Henry Drummond, Bertram
Cates and E. K. Hornbeck cor
respond to the historical fig
ures of William Jennings Bryan,
Clarence Darrow, John Scopes,
and H. L. Mencken, respec
tively.

■THE MESSIAH’ TO BE
PRESENTED - George
Friedrich Handel's most
famous - and most loved -
oratorio, The Messiah, will be
presented by the Ocmulgee
Symphony Orchestra and
the OSO Community Choir in
Hawkinsville Dec. 20. The per
formance will be at 7:30 p.m. in
the Hawkinsville Opera House,
sponsored by the Hawkinsville
Pulaski Arts Council, said Dr.
Charles Quinn, conductor.

■ CHRISTMAS TREE
ROUND-UP - Great Christmas
Tree Round-up- will be held
Jan. 10, 2009, from 8 a.m.-1
p.m. Most trees will be chipped
into mulch and used to keep
city parks green and beautiful.
Others will be deposited in area
lakes and streams to improve
the habitat of fish. As a spe
cial bonus, you will receive a
free tree seedling for each tree
you bring on that date (truck
loads are welcome). Although
Jan. 10, 2009 is the only day
free tree seedlings will be avail
able in exchange for Christmas
trees, trees may left near the
water tower on Maple Street
any time after Christmas.
■ PHILATELIC SOCIETY
MEETING - The monthly
meeting of the Heart of Georgia
Philatelic Society will be at 7
p.m., Dec. 16, at the Warner
Robins Recreation Center, 800
Watson Blvd., Warner Robins.

EXPOSITION AUTHORITY
- The next meeting of the
Georgia Agricultural Exposition
Authority will be held Dec. 19
in Perry, at 1 p.m. in the Board
Room of Reaves Arena.
■ HAPPY HOUR YARD
SALE - Recycled treasures will
be available at Happy Hour's
monthly indoor yard sale. It will
be held Dec. 13 from 8 a.m.-1
p.m. There will be a large selec
tion of items for sale. Volunteers
are needed on Friday from noon
-6 p.m. as well as from 8 a.m.-1
p.m. the morning of the sale.
Donations in good condition are
always welcome. All proceeds
froni the sale go directly back
to serving our clients needs.

■ SANTA CLAUSE AT
TRENDS - Santa Clause is
coming to Trends. He will be
in the store Dec. 13, 14 and
20, 21 from 1-5 p.m. Santa will
listen to all the little boys and
girls to find out what they want
for Christmas. Then for a fee of
$lO the boys and girls can get
their picture taken with Santa.
The pictures will be e-mailed to
the parents.

OBITUARIES “Always remembered"
Sybil Adkins Glerni
PERRY - Sybil Adkins Glenn, 86, passed away on Tuesday,
December 9, 2008. Funeral services were held Friday, December
12, 2008, in the Chapel at Watson-
Hunt Funeral Home with Reverend
Gene McKinney and Mr. Horace
Woodruff officiating. Interment was
immediately following at Pulaski-
Bleckley Memorial Gardens between Hawkinsville and Cochran
with Reverend Tracy Brinson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the
family suggests contributions to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103
Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
Mrs. Glenn, born in Bleckley County, was the daughter of the
late Willie Frank and Hattie Adkins. Having lived most of her life
in Houston County, Mrs. Glenn was a homemaker. She was a
member of First Baptist Church of Haynesville. Survivors include
children, Leroy Singleton (Judy) of Perry, Mae Mullis (Jerry) of
Bonaire, and Jimmy Singleton (Sandra) of Elko; 13 grandchildren,
19 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Please

Raymond "Ray” Howington
PERRY - Raymond “Ray” Howington, 71, passed away in
a Macon Hospital on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. Graveside
services were held Thursday, December 11 at Perry Memorial
Gardens. Mr. Howington, a native of Macon and the son of the
late James C. and Annie Louise (Porterfield) Howington, had
lived in Perry most of his life. He was
retired from the heavy construction
industry and was a US Air Force
Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include a son, Michael
Howington of Macon; siblings, Doris H. Lee (Sam) of Perry and
James F. Howington ( Carolyn ) of Poulan; six grandchildren; five
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Alma
Howington.
