Sixteen Title I schools in Houston County,
according to a release, have been recognized
by the Georgia Department of Education
as 2008-2009 Title I Distinguished Schools.
These schools have achieved adequate year
ly progress for at least three years under the
federal No Child Left Behind Act. Title I
schools have a significant population of stu
dents who are economically disadvantaged
and receive federal money to assist with the
education of these students. Distinguished
schools serve as models for schools with
similar demographics that have been identi
fied for improvement.
“We are proud that 16 of our schools have
been named 2008 Title I Distinguished
Schools,” said Superintendent David
Carpenter. “This demonstrates the com
mitment of our teachers, administrators,
students and parents.
