Perry orders all dog
owners to pen them up
over the next 30 days due
to a rash of complaints of
children being bitten and
strays traveling in packs.
30 years ago:
A Macon company is
granted a 30-day exten
sion to two elevated water
tanks being constructed in
the county. The work is
delayed due to bad weath
er. Also, home construction
in the county Continues at
a fast rate. The county
reports 35 building permits
issued, which is double of
the previous month.
10 years ago:
The Houston County
Board of Education
approves a plan for flexible
scheduling. The board also
approved a new approach
that would allow students
to take elective coursed in
summer school.

Between a flooded arts center, bad
news on the insurance ratings for some
households in Perry’s outlying areas
and tensions over the local impact of
the national economic picture, Perry’s
City Council meeting on Tuesday night
was none too merry.
Even the good news had its mixed
blessings.
The work session began with Art

sent notice that a grant of $255,000
would be made available for capital
improvements at the airport. The
bad news was that getting the grant
would require $35,000 in matching
funds right away, and a commitment
of $85,000 for the long term, with

munity and its successful
programs, is on the verge of
folding.

organization can only func
tion for another two weeks

McDonald said he needed an answer
at the meeting, but Councilman Joe
Kusar said that wasn’t possible, and
McDonald agreed to notify GDOT that
Perry’s answer would not be forthcom
ing until the Jan. 6, 2009, something.
McDonald also gave the council a
briefing on the airports other capital
projects and on the airport’s success
in selling fuel competitively, especially
now that oil prices have dropped.
