Wayne Morris named Kiwanian of the Year

The Perry Kiwanis Club held its annual spouses night dinner at Walker Farm on Dec.
16. Wayne Morris, was named 2008 Kiwanian of the Year. Morris has been a member of
Kiwanis for over 10years having served on numerous committees, the executive board,
and as a past president. Morris joined the Perry Kiwanis Club on May 1, 1995 and is the
owner of Wayne Morris Ford. Outgoing Kiwanis President, John Gray Walker (shown
right), presented Morris with the award.

Approximately 900 high
school 4-H’ers from across
the state attended Fall
Forum at Rock Eagle 4-H
Center in Eatonton, Georgia
on December 9-10. Houston
County had four delegates in
attendance- Margo Braski,
Brasheka Rumph, Jazmin
Thomas, Vincent Thomas.
The theme for the event,
selected by the Georgia State
4-H Officers was, “Georgia
4-H: The Gift that Keeps on
Giving.” The educational

Andrew Carlyle Day to become Eagle Scout
emphasis for the weekend
was on teens teaching teens
educational workshops on a
variety of topics including
leadership, communication
skills, college preparation
and more.
Programs were led by 4-
H’ers from across the state
including Houston County’s
own- Margo Braski, State
Board Officer, and Jazmin
Thomas, District Board
Officer.
The Great Rock Eagle
Road Race, the annual win
ter dance, dedication of
the brand-new Rock Eagle
Dining Hall, the Hard Rock
Eagle Case and a perfor
mance by Clovers & Co.,
Georgia’s 4-H performing
arts group, were all part of
the exciting weekend.
The Georgia 4-H program
reflects the diverse inter
ests, concerns, and talents
of young people across thee

Eagle Scout Coupt of Honor
for Andrew Day on Sunday

Andrew Carlyle Day began
his journey to his Eagle
Court of Honor when he
first joined Boy Scout Troop
59 in September 2005. He
has spent more than 70
days camping with Fort
Valley Troop 59. His adven
tures in camping have car
ried him to many places in
the state, including Camp
Rainey Mountain in Clayton,
Woodruff Scout Reservation
in Blairsville, and Camp
Thunder in Thomaston.
During this time, he com
pleted many of his merit
badges and met many new
friends. Each spring and
fall, Andrew has attended
the Central Georgia Council
Camporees using his scout
ing skills to compete with
his patrol in various compe
titions, bringing home many
awards.
Day completed his Eagle
Project in September of this
year. For his Eagle Scout
project he organized 30 vol
unteer's in tagging Storm
drains in the Middle Georgia
area; marking approximately
152 storm drains, and hang
ing approximately 455 pieces

Rhonda Thomson honored for service to Lions

Perry Optometrist, Dr. Rhonda Thompson was recently honored at a luncheon given
by the Unadilla Lions Club for her continued support and contribution to the Lions
Club International. The Lions Club is an organization dedicated to the goal of Ending
Preventable Blindness world-wide. They demonstrate their commitment through eye
glass recycling, sightpartnership, and countless other sight services. Dr. Thompson
has been involved with the Lions Club since 1988 by providing eye exams and eye
glasses to those approved by the local chapter of the Lions Club. She also collects
eyeglasses for recycling through the Lions Club. If you have any old eyeglasses you
would like to donate, please bring them by Thompson Eye Clinic at 755 Carroll Street
in Perry.

an article for the two local

Outside of scouting, Day
is a High School Freshman
at Veritas Home-school
Academy in Warner Robins.
He is a member of 4-H, and
was Team Captain of the
2008 State 4-H Champion
Horse Quiz team. He also
takes great pride in raising
his show pigs each year, and
is an avid hunter, landing his
first trophy buck this year.
Day is h member of Perry
Presbyterian Church and
Youth group. He also takes
part in various volunteer
ing opportunities within the
surrounding communities,
and through-out the year.
His Court of Honor is to be
held on Saturday, December
27th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at
Perry Presbyterian Church
Sanctuary.

stand that she is very special to me. I’m the lucky one who
gets to spend a lot of time with her these days. She cooks
Sunday dinner every week for my family. (Tell me that isn’t
special.) My mother, and our “private time” together mean
more to me than anything else in the world. Those are my
memories that I cherish the most.
I have seen many sacrifices made by my mother over the
years, with her never once thinking that her kind deeds were
actually sacrifices. Memories of my childhood, great parents
and the importance of family is what my mother has given
me. That is what I am most thankful for this year.
I love you mom.
