There is a decided scarcity of surf
men in the life-saving service on the
great lakes. A number of the sta
tions are running short handed, and it
is being found impossible to find men
to fill the vacancies. Surfmen are re
signing in large numbers, and are
leaving the stations in serious predica
ments.

The Golden Age.
i The Golden Age for November 29, 1906.
Prohibition Note.
Tt is a fact worthy of more than passing notice that on the Wednesday
fol’.'wing the local election in Atlanta, Ga., there was not a single case called
in the police court. This may be only a remarkable coincidence, but we
cannot fail to believe it is an incident directly traceable to the fact that
on Tuesday, election day, every sajoon in the city of Atlanta was closed to
the public.
The case was the more significant because on the same Wednesday morn
ing the “Docket” was supplied with a full list c o£ prisoners—being those
left over from Monday when the saloons were all open and all doing a dou
ble business to make up for the day of closing!
Praise From the People.
“Should Be In Every Home.”
“I am well pleased with The Golden Age and think it well worth the
pafice and it should be in every home. If you will send me some sample
copies I will hand them out to neighbors and perhaps they will take the
paper. Rosa Ray, Maysville, Ga.”
“Will Be a Blessing to the Children.”
“Enclosed find a year’s subscription to The Golden Age. I am a widow
woman with seven children and feel that the paper will be a blessing to
them and myself. God bless you; my prayers are with you. I am going to
get you subscribers if I can. Mrs. Queenie Wells, Decatur, Miss.”
“Paying for Something Vital.”
“In sending you my check for The Golden Age, I am paying for some
_ thing vital. I never expect to be without it. Mayhap I can send you a
Christmas present of new subscribers. 8.-Wilson, M.D., Gatesville, Ga.”
