they get in and look out, it is grand.
Now, could you look from the inside
out, etc., your fears would be gone
in like fashion.” It seems that you
feel that you have attained to this
‘higher education,” whereas your for
mer college presidents and professors
nave not. You ask us to be frank,
and in all frankness we assert that
some of your former professors have
more higher education than you will
e'ver have if you stay ten years in the
university. Your statement is the
rankest egotism and is excusable only
on the ground of ignorance and fresh
ness. You seem to confuse higher
education with this modern thought,
which, in egotism, has termed itself
“truth” or “new learning.” Don’t be
deceived by it any longer. That is
not higher education...
Yes, true holiness will bore through
higher education and everything else.
We are so sorry that you didn’t exhibit
that type of it and stand your own
among the higher critics and so-called,
self-termed “new learning” and
“truth,” instead of turning yourself
over to them. We believe that you
came out better than most of them do,
fur you show, in some respects, a good
spirit in your letter, and we trust that
your religious experience was real, in
spite of this “new learning” and
“truth” “higher criticism,” “evolu
tion,” etc., that you have adopted. If
so, you will come to see your error.
But, if you propagate these ideas
much, however, you will kill your in
fluence for Christ and the Holy Ghost
will be grieved, while Satan will re
joice. This “new learning” and “truth”
do not honor the Holy Ghost and He is
sensitive. They do not recognize the
cleansing blood of Christ. Please do
not call that stuff higher education
any more. It is a travesty on the
name and an insult to true education
co so term it. We believe in higher
education, the highest one can get;
but we are forever against this new
idea that minifies the works of God
and magnifies the works of man.
Yes, we are going to do our very
best to prepare everyone who will go
to these universities to steel them
selves against that sort of teaching,
and come through untarnished by it
and uninfluenced, if such a thing is
SORRY SHE DIDN’T JOIN
The Golden Age Piano Club.
The following letter just received
from Mrs. L. P. Coats, Plano, Texas,
will be interesting to those readers
who are thinking of joining The Gold
en Age Piano Club:
Mrs. Coats writes:
“I failed to get your book on
prices and terms of payment.
On last Monday my husband
went to the County Seat, McKin
ney, and bought us a Weiler
Piano, just shipped from Chica
go, warranted for ten years. We
had paid an agent $lO5 on a
Kimball organ, and he claimed to
allow us that much on our piano,
leaving us owing $250, to be paid
in monthly payments of SIO.OO
each. I am sure sorry, as I want
ed to join the Piano Club so
much. I would have felt I was
getting the worth of my money.”
Our Club members get the best
style of Weiler for only $173.00,
whereas, Mrs. Coats had to pay $250.00
plus her organ, the cost of which was
$105.00. Assuming that she got the
best style of Weiler made, she lost
$77.00 in money and her organ, or
$182.00 in all. Now the Club catalogue
only claims to save its members
$102.00 on the best Weiler piano,
whereas it would really have saved
Mrs. Coats, $182.00.
This is only a sample of what is
going on around you every day. The
moral is, “Investigate The Golden
Age Piano Club’s splendid offer be
fore you buy.” We will gladly send
you a free copy of the Club’s beauti
fully illustrated catalogue on request.

possible. But we are going to try to
keep everyone we can away from such
institutions. We have two or three in
other universities. We hope the at
mosphere there is more wholesome and
less tainted with this so-called “new
learning” and “new truth,” and that
they will come out less influenced
than you seem to be. However, we
had rather risk the life of some who
didn’t get higher than about the aca
demic grades here, but who are doing
wonderful work in soul-saving, than
run the risk of our preacher boys be
ing sidetracked and cooled off and
toued down in the universities which
teach destructive criticism of the Bible
and so-called “new learning” and
“truth.” Out in the world they are
not under teachers and professors, and
can, therefore hold their own, and if
they will continue to read and study
carefully selected books they will get
a fairer, higher education, without go
ing to the universities for it.
We are glad you wrote freely, for it
gave us all the more warning and
showed us all the more dangers. We
have always been interested in you
ever since we found you in a little
back-woods school house, at that camp
meeting. We have always believed
that there was real good possibilities
in you. We are still greatly inter
ested in you, and greatly pained that
the higher critics seem to have cap
tured you. We are praying even yet
that you may swing back, as the papers
reported Dr. Briggs, of the Union
'Theological Seminary, has done, and
get your balance, and be an earnest,
active preacher of a full gospel of the
atoning blood that can save from the
uttermost to the uttermost, and that
you will bring thousands of souls into
the experience of full salvation and
have many stars in your crown.

MISS CRANE’S CHANCE.
(Continued from Page 3.)
“Will you have dinner, Mam, served
ter night?”
“No, thank you, not until tomorrow
night.”
“You see,” Miss Crane explained
to her friend, as the iron gate clang
ed behind them, “I want to get estab
lished, over here, enough to permit me
to receive Nell in her new home, and
I want you and Gordon to be with us,
to take away the lonesome, awkward
feeling, and I may invite Wayne
Hamilton to dinner also. So, you
must take the matter up. with Gor
don tonight in your most persuasive
way, and then tomorrow, if he con
sents, you and I can easily have those
things we need most brought over and
afterwards we can move at our leis
ure, take a week if necessary.”
“Oh, that will be fine!” Mrs. More
exclaimed. “Just fine as can be. Nell
will be your legitimate heir, you know,
and we can blow the trumpets, and
bang the drums, metaphorically in her
honor, when the right time comes.”
“We will do more,” Miss Crane add
ed with a joyous note in her voice, “we
will make her realize that she is the
dearest little girl in the world, to us.”
“Thank you,” Mrs. More returned
for that plural pronoun, it makes me
feel like Gordon and I were already a
part of the family, and we just must
be.”

MINERAL WATER BETTER THAN DRUGS
It is generally conceded by the best physi
cians that a highly medicated mineral water
is a much safer and more effective remedy
for stomach, liver, bladder, kidney and blood
troubles than prepared drugs. Dr. A. L. R.
Avant says this of Shivar Spring Water —
“It acts as a general renovator of the system.
I prescribe it in my practice and it has in
every instance had the desired effect. It is
purely Nature’s remedy.’’ Unequalled for
dyspepsia, indigestion, rheumatism, Bright’u
disease, diabetes, gall stones, uric acid poi
soning, etc. Anyone can try Shivar Spring
Water without risk, by sending $2 for 10
gallons. If it fails to benefit, return the
empty demijohns and . your money will be
refunded. Address N. F. Shivar, Shivar

monials free.

Liver Sluggish? Co To Your Doctor
“ How are your bowels ? ” This is generally the first question the
doctor asks. He knows what a sluggish liver means. He knows
that headaches, bilious attacks, indigestion, impure blood, are
often promptly relieved by a good liver pill. Ask him if he ap
proves of Ayer’s Pills. Then follow his advice.

THROAT TROUBLES
MOST people imagine that when they are afflicted with inflam
matory diseases of the respiratory tract, such as croup, pneu
monia, sore throat, coughs, colds, or catarrh, they must
swallow all manner of medicines and afflict the whole body
with divers fluid drugs in order to secure relief.
Modern methods of medication run exactly counter to this old-fashioned theory.
Treatment of these diseases by inhalation of curative vapors is now practiced in all
hospitals and sanatariums,
These diseases are essentially local inflammations, and should be treated by di
rect application of the curative agent to the affected parts.
As it is impossible to breathe a fluid treatment into the lungs, the local medica
tion is possible only by inhalation.
In harmony with this fact the treatment of such inflammations as colds, croup,
catarrh and incipient pneumonia with Vick’s Croup and Pneumonia Salve can be
depended upon for prompt and satisfactory results.
The salve, which contains valuable remedial agents, volatilizes on being applied
to the warm skin of throat and chest. The curative vapors are inhaled, going direct
to the seat of the trouble in throat, nostrils, lungs and the cavaties of the organs of
respiration.
The effect is to stimulate the mucous membrane, throw off the phlegm and restore
normal breathing promptly.
The vapors, being antiseptic, cleanse the air passages and check disease-
The stomach, having been left without interfer
ence by internal medication, continues to digest
food regularly and this supplies the rich new blood
so necessary to combat disease and maintain the
body in strength.
Locally, on throat and chest, Vick’s Salve has
the effect of a counter irritant assisting the inner
treatment by stimulating the external surfaces
.. wMBWBW nearest the seat of the trouble.
i By absorption it allays the inflammation or re-
duces congestion.
