Second, we have the account in Gen
esis, 11:7, “And Jehovah God formed
(yatza) man of the dust of the ground,
and breathed into his nostrils the
breath of life; and man became a liv
ing soul. I want us to observe here
that it is stated God “formed” man.
This does not refer to his original crea
tion, as stated in Gen. 1:27, but to his
after adaptation. God formed him out
of the dust of the ground. He adapt
ed him to the order of life which he
was to serve, and for which he was
created.
Then, again, observe “God breathed
into his nostrils the breath of lives” —
for that is the literal translation. The
inbreathing of God produced a two
fold life; sensual and spiritual.
“And man became a living soul.”
Clearly this refers to his immortality,
which distinguishes him from all oth
er beings, and which is the essential
medium of communication between
Spirit and flesh, —“He became.”
Then we have the account of the
evolutionist. I almost hesitate to
give you this, bedause it seems so silly.
“iMan has been evolved from some
still lower animal; the monkey for ex
ample. A monkey from something
low’er than itself; a frog for instance.
The frog from something still lower;
some vegetable matter. And, again,
this vegetable or organic matter, from
some inorganic crystal—that which
has life originally springs spontaneous
ly from that which has no life; the
origin of life being traced by Darwin
to electricity and albumen.”
To put it another way: The evo
lutionists regard that “in the begin
ning there was some primitive proto
plasts gliding in a quiet pool, proceed
ing through unthinkable millions of
years—emerging at last as man, at a
moderate estimate of half a million
years ago.”
Now, this conclusion leads us to ask
three very important questions: Can
life come from no life? Has man been
evolved from a lower form of animal
life? Is Adam the father of the race?
Let us take the first question—has
life sprung from no life? This is al
most too silly a question to spend time
upon; and we will only consider a few
words from the most modern scientific
sources; for the Bible gives only God
as creator of life.
Lord Kelvin, in 1904, concluding an
address concerning the Origin of Life,
said: “Nothing approaching to the cell
of a living creature has ever yet been
made. No artificial process whatever
can make living matter out of dead.”
A year previous to this, he declared
that “Scientific thought is compelled
to accept the idea of creative power ”
Sir Oliver Lodge says, “All the many
attempts in the direction of sponta
neous generation hitherto have con
spicuously failed.”
In answering the second question,
Has man been evolved from a lower
form of animal life, Dr. Ray Lancaster
says: “If man had really been evolv
ed from a lower animal, there would,
in the natural course of things, remain
some traces of the intermediate
forms.”
This we can clearly see, and yet it is
a fact, that there is no living trace of
Yankee Knows a Good Thing.
Mr. P. O. Hanlon, Providence, R. I. writes:
“Please forward six boxes of Tetterine,
C. O. D. It is the best cure for Eczema, Ring
worm and all eruptions of the skis I ever
saw.” Mr. Hanlon’s letter also reports the
cure of an obstinate ease of facial eruption
in a young lady who had tried many other
remedies without avail.
Tetterine has no equal for Eczema, Tetter,
Ringworm, Pimples, Acne, and skin erup
tions, also Itching Piles. Price 60 cents at

Man and His Dominion
(Continued from Page Two.)
such intermediate forms in the fossil
specimens discovered in ail parts of
the world, dating back to pre-historic
times.
bir J. W. Dawson, speaking of this
matter, says: “No remains of inter
mediate forms are yet known to sci
ence. The earliest known remains of
man are still human, and tell us noth
ing i s to previous stages of develop
ment.'’
All we know from the testimony of
science about man, shows that instead
of hie having slowly come up from the
lower to the higher, he has gone in tne
opposite direction. This certainly is
tru.3 physically. This agrees exactly
with the idea presented in the brief
history of the creation of man in Gen
esis:. Man was created in the image
of God. His average age in the early
periods of his life was longer than it
has ever been since. Physically he
was of great size, “There were gaints
in those days.” Sin has weakened
the race. The only sane conclusion,
therefore, with reference to the origin
of man is that which we get from Gen
esis, and with this the latest pro
nouncements of science agree. For
example, Mr. Capron says: “The au
thor of Genesis writes with an exact
scientific accuracy.”
The last question, Is Adam the fath
er of the race? In Genesis, 2:5 we
read: “There was not a man to till
the ground.” Then, in I Cor. 15:45:
“Adam is callled the first man.” In
Mai. 2:10, it is said: “Have we not
all one father, Adam?” And in Gen
esis, 3:20, it is declared: “Eve was
the mother of all living.” But, leav
ing the Bible declarations, it is inter
esting to note what some of the
greatest scientists say. Prof. Huxley,
in the “Origin of Species,” says “I
am one of those who believe that at
present there is no evidence whatever
for saying that mankind sprang origi
nally from any more than a single
pair.”
Upon this question of Adam’s being
the parent of the race, there is no long
er any controversy. We accept the
Bible as we now have it; and it is in
teresting to note the rapid return to it
on the part of many who, at one time,
were on the verge of breaking with it.
Our next concern about man is the
dominion that is given him by God
over all forms of life. Supreme do
minion was given him, and he was pure
and sinless. Only one commandment
was he directed to keep—only one
transgression was possible. He was
permitted to eat of all the trees of the
garden, even the tree of life, but the
fruit of the tree of the knowledge of
good and evil he was not to eat. We
find no mention of this prohibition in
Chapter 1. It simply gives us the rec
ord of the creation and restoration.
The second chapter begins the first
stage of man’s position, and its conse
quent responsibility. From here on
through the rest of the Book we have
a record of man’s utter failure to meet
that responsibility.
Immediately after he enters upon
his authority in government, and after
he had received his divine prohibition
concerning the fruit of the garden, we
have the record of the creation of
woman to be his help-meet. The story
is so suggestive in its typology of the
relationship afterward instituted by
Christ to His Church, that we shall
consider it just as it appears, without
stopping to answer any criticisms
whatever that the world has passed
upon it. We have already seen
enough of the failure of criticism to
shake the plain declarations of the
Bible concerning this early period,
