State Representative
Terry England (R-Auburn)
was recently recognized by
the Georgia Academy of
Family Physicians (GAFP)
as the 2016 Family Medi
cine Legislative Champion
of the Year.
“It is an honor to be
named GAFPs 2016 Leg
islative Champion of
the Year, along with my
esteemed colleague, Jack
Hill,” said Rep. England.
“Family medicine plays a
large role in the overall
health and wellness of our
families and the citizens
of this state, and invest
ing in family medicine is
ultimately an investment
in the well-being of all
Georgians.”
This annual award rec
ognizes legislative leaders
in the Georgia General
Assembly, and this year,
Rep. England was selected
for his support of Georgia
health initiatives and his
stewardship as the Chair
man of the House Appro
priations Committee. State
Senator Jack Hill (R-Re-
idsville) was also selected
as a 2016 award winner.
“Both chairpersons
England and Hill have
really made the health of
Georgians their priority
and the Georgia Acade
my of Family Physicians
wants to recognize those
legislators who are fight
ing for a healthier and bet
ter future for Georgia res
idents,” said Mitzi Rubin,
M.D., president of the
GAFP and a family phy
sician in the Atlanta area.
GAFP selected Rep.
England and Sen. Hill for
their work to help increase
payments for 32 primary
care codes, which GAFP
considers a major victo
ry for family physicians,
as well as their pediatric,
internal medicine, and
obstetrics/gynecological
colleagues. GAFP also
praised Rep. England for
his support for legislation
including tax credits for
rural hospitals and the
Prescription Drug Moni
toring Bill, which allows
clinicians to better identify
patients who may have pre
scription drug addiction.
Rep. England is among 32
appointees to the commis
sion. The GAFP represents
2.900 physicians and med
ical students in the state
of Georgia. Today, family
physicians provide more
care for America's under
served and rural popula
tions than any other medi
cal specialty.
