Elaine Alewine, 61, passed away
Tuesday, September 13, 2016.
Bom in Danielsville, she was
the daughter of the late Grady
Hoover Allen and Don Nelle
McElroy Allen. Mrs. Alewine
loved hunting and fishing, but
most importantly, she loved her
grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by two sisters, Judy
Sellers and Tammy Ferguson.
Survivors include her hus
band, Roger Alewine; two chil
dren, Joe Alewine and his wife,
Brandy and their two children,
Katie and Jaxon, and Wendy Jor
dan and her two children, Tay
lor and Aylah; special nephew,
Louis Sellers, and a host of other
family and friends.
Funeral services were held
Friday, September 16, at Lord
and Stephens, Danielsville, with
the Rev. Dwayne Dickerson offi
ciating. Interment was at Moon’s
Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Donnie Alvin Allen, 60, died
Monday, September 12, 2016.
A native of Barrow County,
Mr. Allen was the son of the late
James “Bud” Allen. Mr. Allen
was retired from Johns Manvel.
Survivors include his wife

Allen; mother, Clara Bell Allen;

and Tammy (Tim) Hutchinson;

and taught school for 20 years,
retiring from the Jefferson City
School System, and later retiring
from Norcross Tag Company.
A member of the First Baptist
Church of Jefferson, where she
was a member of the church
choir and was the pianist for 35
years, she was an accomplished
seamstress, interior decorator, an
artist, and enjoyed crocheting.
Mrs. Brooks was a dedicated
grandmother and loved watching
her grandchildren play an array
of sporting activities. Along
with her mother, Mrs. Brooks
is preceded in death by her hus
band, Charles Wendell Brooks.
Survivors in addition to her
father are two sons, Tim Brooks
and his wife Cindy, Jefferson,
Stephen Brooks and his wife
Molly, Franklin, Tenn.; sister,
Ramona Turner, Jasper, Tenn.;
brother Melvin Turner and his
wife Becky, Bryant, Tenn.; and
eight grandchildren, Chase and
Haley Brooks, Skyler, Camille
and Bray den Lacey, Lowry and
Griffin Brooks and Tyler Hop
kins.

at her residence.
Ms. Dalton was born on Octo
ber 16, 1946, in Fairmont, W.Va.,
the daughter of the late Ray
mond P. and Maxine L. Steele.
She graduated from West Fair
mont Senior High School and
Monongalia County Vo-Tech
Center. She pursued a career
in nursing until retirement. Ms.
Dalton was preceded in death
by her aunt, Josephine (Jo) and
uncle, Charles Brown; aunt Bar
bara (Bobbie) Little; uncle Berle
Little; and cousins, Jerry and
Dixie Brown Copley.
Survivors include her daugh
ter and son-in-law, Michelle
and Michael Harold, Maysville;
daughter and friend, Stepha
nie Dalton and Joe Gouzd,
Maysville and Kingmont, W.Va.;
granddaughters, Abby and
Ashley Harold, both of whom
currently attend West Virginia
University in Morgantown,
W.Va.; special friends, John

W.Va.; aunt and uncle, Ralph

Faulkner, 70, passed away Tues
day, September 13, 2016.
Born in Colbert, he was
the son of the late Roy Amon
Faulkner and Allie Mae Melton
Faulkner. He enjoyed garden
ing, working in his yard, and
riding to the mountains. Most
importantly, Mr. Faulkner loved
his granddaughters. He was pre
ceded in death by one brother,
Kenneth “Mutt” Faulkner.
Survivors include one son,
Jason Alan Faulkner and his
wife, Denise; three siblings,
Kerry Faulkner, Marie Seagraves
and Ronald Faulkner; and two
granddaughters, Morgan and
Courtney Faulkner.

George Garrison

Arthur Garrison, 72, passed
away Sun
day, Septem
ber 18, 2016,
peacefully at
his residence
surrounded
by his family.
He was
born April
28, 1944 in
Athens, the
son of the
late Jack Cleveland Garrison and
Felecia Tolbert Garrison. He was
preceded in death by a brother,
Fredrick Paul Garrison.
He met his wife, Catherine
“Kitty” Elizabeth Smith, in
1964, while serving in the Unit
ed States Navy in Jacksonville,
Fla. They were married on June
5, 1965, in Folkston, Ga. After
getting married, they made their
home in Jacksonville, Fla. before
moving back to Athens, where
they raised their two daughters,
Tracy and Tara.
George began his career in
law enforcement in 1970 as a
patrolman with Athens Police
Department. He later became
Lieutenant of the Drug Task
Force. He was very passionate
about his career. He was hon
ored along with his team with
an award from President Ronald
Reagan in 1982. When he retired
in 1997, he was Captain of the
Athens-Clarke County Drug
Task Force of Northeast Georgia.
He was a member of Prince
Avenue Baptist Church. George
loved football and always
cheered on his Georgia Bull
dogs. He was loved and respect
ed by many. He loved spending
time with family, especially his
grandchildren. They were the
highlight of his life.
Survivors include his loving
wife of 51 years, Kitty Gar
rison; two daughters and two
sons-in-law, Tracy and Dale Wil
liford, Watkinsville, and Tara
and Shane Hix, Danielsville; six
grandchildren, Ashley McGhee
(her husband Richard McGhee),
Joshua Shelton, Tatum Hix,
Grayson Hix, Kylee Williford
and George Williford; two great
grandchildren, Ruston McGhee
and Jaxton McGhee; two broth
ers, Herbert Cleveland Garrison,
Springfield, La. and Luther Wil
liam Garrison, Maysville; and
many, many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service
will be held at Lord & Stephens
West Chapel, Thursday, Septem
ber 22, at 1 p.m., with Chaplain
Jacqueline Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow at Oconee
Memorial Park. Pallbearers will
be Shane Hix, Dale Williford,
Joshua Shelton, Patrick Smith,
Kyle Garrison, Kelly Garrison,
and Mike Smith. Honorary pall
bearers will be Grayson Hix and
George Williford. The family
will receive friends from 6 to 8
p.m. Wednesday, September 21,
at the funeral home.

Pentecostal Holiness Church and
was a member of the Harrison
McCrary VFW Post #4828. Mr.
Grizzle was preceded in death
by his brother, Ellis Grizzle; and
sister, Diane Belk.

bone in Gainesville, and retired
as head of the tailor shop at
JC Penny Distribution Center in
Forest Park. She was a mem
ber of Corinth Baptist Church
in Cumming. Mrs. Lopez was
preceded in death by her sisters,
Frances Jackson, Judy Jackson
and Willene Hudgins.
Survivors include her children,
Annette Ayers, Gainesville; Vera
(Phil) Bryson, Homer, David
(Gwen) Marlow, Maysville, and
Cindy (Mark) Mullinax, Cleve
land; brother, Howard Grady
“Buddy” (Nina) Jackson, Gills-
ville; 12 grandchildren; 19 great
grandchildren; as well as a host

Charles Day
JEFFERSON - Charles Mark
Day died Wednesday, September
14, 2016.
He was born June 26, 1965
in Columbus, Ga. He graduated
high school in 1983, Charlotte
High School, Punta Gorda, Fla.,
and attended Mercer University
and the University of Georgia.
Mark was a
member of
Sigma Nu
fraternity. He |
served in the
United States Marine Corp for
four years and was stationed in
Okinawa for two of those years.
He loved music was a writer and
an artist.
He published one illustrated
children’s book. Mark donated
dozens of his pen and ink draw
ings of historical landmarks to
the Jackson County Bicenten
nial Celebration in 1996. His
artwork appears in several
businesses in Jackson County.
Mark loved cooking. His exper
tise in BBQ won for him the
Whole Hog award as well as the
People’s Choice award in the
Atlanta BBQ cook-off in 2010.
He was the proud owner of “Fat
& Happy Bbq.” and cooked bar-
beque at numerous musical festi
vals, including his own festival,
“Amberland.”
Mark loved animals and
nature. There was never a time
he didn’t stop to move a turtle
out of the road. He will be great
ly missed.
Survivors include his son,
Zachary Morgan Day; former
wife, Amberly Waters Day; his
parents, Anne Weed Day of
Gainesville, and Haywood Day
of Flowery Branch; brother,
Nathan Day, Flowery Branch;
sisters-in-law, Jennifer Waters
Herring and Karen Cherney;
mother- in- law, Patsy Davis
Waters; one niece, Amy Cher
ney; two nephews, Ian and Noah
Herring; uncle, Randolph Weed;
aunts, Betty Weed Self, Lujean
Moody, and Maxine Mauldin;
and several cousins. His special
little buddies, Robert Dugan,
Carey Riel, Steven Anderson,
Budpie Hearn, Snake William
son, and Kevin McCooK.
