THE PEACE)
WINDER POLICE RECEIVE THREE AEDS
The City of Winder Police Department recently received three Automated External Defibrillators
(AEDs) through grant funding provided by Firehouse Subs. As a result of these units that were pro
vided, the police department will be able to mobilize the AEDs by putting one inside a police vehicle
on every patrol shift. Currently, all the city’s AEDs are fixed inside buildings with the exception of
a couple that are on the fire department’s vehicles. “According to the American Heart Association,
approximately 890 deaths from coronary heart disease occur outside of the hospital or emergency
room every day,” said Lt. Chris Cooper, WPD. “Most of these deaths are due to the sudden loss of
heart function or sudden cardiac death. A number of these victims, up to 60 percent, might have been
saved if Automated External Defibrillators were immediately available. Having an AED on every patrol
shift will allow the police department to provide even faster medical treatment to a patient experienc
ing a heart related emergency in the event the patient is not close to a building or location with an
AED. The Winder Police Department would like to thank Firehouse Subs for this award and for their
partnership with our agency to better serve our community.”
