The Game Plan
Why Alabama has earned my utmost respect
Growing up in the South
I have had my fair share of
experience with Alabama
football fans. Some of my
closest fans are Alabama
fans and I can’t remem
ber the last time I went a
week without hearing the
dreaded words “roll tide”
spoken to me, usually in
a manner that I do not
appreciate.
I used to have a deep
hatred towards Alabama,
their players and even
Nick Saban. I used to look
forward to every Saturday
with hopes that some team
would defeat the Tide.
And, as you could imag
ine, most Saturdays my
wish did not come true. To
be fair. I still feel this way
going into most Saturdays
today.
Yeah, I guess I can say
I’ve had my fair share of
hate towards the Tide.
But, in this last week I
really began to appreciate
the dominance of Alabama
when I began to analyze
one key-contributing fac
tor to all of their success.
And let me start by say
ing that I am not an Ala
bama fan nor will I ever
will be.
What I am saying is that
the Crimson Tide has my
utmost respect
for one clear
reason.
Every single
week the Crim
son Tide is get
ting the other
team’s best shot,
no doubt about
it. No matter
who you are,
when you play
Alabama you
give it your all.
Every week that Alabama
steps on the field they are
met with a team that has
been waiting weeks to play
them and just about every
time they respond well and
come away with
a victory. It’s just
really impressive.
The champi
onships and the
NFL players are
impressive, but this
might be even more
impressive. For
years Alabama has
taken the best shot
from every team
week in and week
out, Alabama play
ers know that each week
they play a team that has
circled that game on their
calendar for weeks.
Take, for example, this
week’s game against LSU.
LSU has had a rough sea
son (although they have
recently bounced back) but
when they played Alabama
this past Saturday they had
an incredible performance
and forced Alabama to win
a close game.
The final score was 10-0,
not a very sexy score line
for the Tide. But it got the
job done and Alabama left
Tiger Stadium with a win.
The fact of the matter
is the Alabama Crimson
Tide never really gets an
off week. Sure, they play
games against bad teams
or “cupcake teams” but
even those teams are going
to play their best football
on those days - every
one wants a shot at the
Champs!
I’m not a ‘Bama fan.
I personally hope that
Auburn pulls off the upset
in a few weeks, but I am
very impressed by the Tide
and have a ton of respect
for Nick Saban and the rest
of the Alabama squad.
