WATERWORKS MAN STATES
BIRD WVAS FIRST BELLED IN
KENTUCKY. :
KANSAS CITY, April 7—(®P)—
lard F. Hall, 61 manager of the
waterworks at Raytown, Mo., believe
he rlaced the bell on the belled .
buzzard killed recently near Comer
Ga. The sfarmer who shot the bird
reported that the bell bore the date
1882. Hall caught the buzzard on®
his grandfather’s farm near Spring*
field, Ky., in 1885, tied the bell to
its neck, turned it lecose. 4
“Y the bell is examined carefully.
I believe it will be found to be’
dated 18834 instead of 1882” Hall
said tonight. “I made the inseription®
with & pocket knife and the ‘five’
could easily have been mistaken for’
a ‘two.” s
He said the bell he attached:
“measured about two and one-half
or three inches at the bottom and*
we~ ahoul two inches long.
¢ “It iz what is commonly known ad
a sheep bell. I attached it with a
picce of leather lacing in such man
ner -that it was looped around the
bixd's neck.”
