WASHINGTON, Apr. 17 (P)—Again
turning to Canada for light on the pro
hibition question the senate commit

in the statements that beer sale had
solved the dominion’s wet and dryi
troubles. 1
‘William E. Raney, former attorney
,general of Toronto, Ontario, called by
the dry leaders, said Ontariols exprei
ment with the legalized sale of “non
intoxicating beer was not successful.
He said beer drinkers complained that
there was not enough kick in the four
percent beer allowed under the law
npnd permits to sell this beer were use
ful to holders as a disguisa to sell
something strongor.
Bootlegging is going on in both avet |
and -dry provinces, and ‘“next to Brit-|

which is wet, has the largest dope

MEXICO CITY, April 17-(1?)—'
Attorney General Ortega has in
structed the district attorney in the|
Third District Court of Mexico City
to prosecute Bishop Jose Jesus Mar
tinez of Huejutla because of the re-'
cent pastoral letter opposing the re
ligious eclauses in the Mexican con
“stitution. |
. It is said the Bishop notified the!
legislature that he declined to ac
cept the limitations placed on Catho-
Jic priests. The attorney general as
serts that the language used by th
bishop constitutes a violation of the
law and has instructed the districti
attorney to seek severe punishment
if the prelate is found guilty. {
It is announced that the govern-'
ment shortly will close all schools
violating the provisions of the con
\stitution and place the pupils in the
government schools “where they will

FOR YOUNG PEQOPLE
lONE OF BEST SERVICES OF EN
TIRE -REVIVAL HELD LAST
NIGHT AT METHODIST
CHURCH. : : |
The Young People’s service that
was held by Evangelist Lovein at
the Methodist church last night was
easily one of the greatest services
ever held in Cordele. An netire sec
tion of the church was reserved for
the young people and they filled
their section and ran it over. ‘
Before he began to preach Mr
Lovein said “If any of you people
are inclined to be pessimistic about
tne young people of today, then look
at the sight of this and banish from
vour minds forever and fear you
;night have entertained about your
youth.” !
The sermon was for the young
folks, taken from a text in 2 Corin
thians. “They first gave themselves
to the Lord"” and the evangelist wa¢
at his best as he plead with these
young people whom he as drawn to
the church during his stay in Cordele
The closing scene. was most impres
sive. Mr. Lovein invited the young
reople to the altar for prayer and
the long altar in the church was
more than filled. He then invited
the parents of all those at the altar
to join them, and such a service and
such a scene has neveh been wit
nessed in Cordele before. It was a
service that will linger in the minds
of all those present until their dying
day. g
There will he no services at the
church today, but on Sunday, Mr.
Lovein will speak to the children at
the Sunday School hour, and wili
preach at 11:30. Then again at 8
o’clock tomorrow night, thus bring--
ing to a close one of the greatest
revivals Cordele has ever known. I

LONDON; April 17—(P)--Officials
kere disinclined to discuss the news
that cfilcials ¢i thc American State

ing a new liquor treaty with Great
Britain. Political observers, however
profess to see considerable er=-
barrassment to the British govern

advanced.
Political experts summing up the
situation say the liquor interests
here are so powerful that any gov

opposition in attempting to sign a
formal pact precluding the exporta--

It was ctated that the government
