DELIGHTFUL AFFAIR SPONSOR
ED BY LOCAL CLUBS AT SU
~ WANEE HOTEL.
The joint banquet given at the Su
wanee Hotel Monday evening by the
Woman'’s Civic Club, Kiwanis Club
and the Crisp County Board of
Trade and served by the Woman’s
Civie Club was a brilliant success.
There were present about one hun
dred and fifty of Cordele's citizens
The occasion of this banquet was a
get-to-gether meeting to hear the
Cordele and Crisp county program
broadcasted from WSB Atlanta Jour
nal. The banquet began at nine
o'clock and the bdoadcasting prog
ram of Cordele and Crisp county
started at ten o'clock and lasted for
’ one hour. Senator C. M. McKcnziel
president of the Kiwanis Club acted
as toastmaster in a most pleasing
and affable manner and he made a
strong talk at the conclusion of {@
banquet, stating what the Genera:'
Assembly had done in cxtra-ordinary‘
gession. |
The first speaker of the evening
was Mrs. Max E. Land, who in herl
usual charming manner gave in de
tail the purpose for which the new
organized Civic Club stands. Mr. P.
F. Fitzgibbons, president of Crisp
County Board of Trade, presented ir.«f
detail the hydro-clectric project that
Crisp county is now putting over
and his speech was received with
much enthusiasm and applause. Miss
Eleanor Dekle gave a reading that
was well received. and Dr. Louisv'
Tipton sang two selections to the de
light of her hearers and with much
credit to herself. Representative W
H. Dorris, in his most jovial way
told of the modesty of men and his
speech was heard with gales of laugh
ter and applause. 1
Promptly at ten o’clock the prog
ram from Atlanta began coming in
over the radio set installed in tho‘
“pacious dining roomby F. L. Bm--;
tholomew. While the program was
splendid in all details it could not be
heard distinctly at times on account
of the unusual amount of stntic.{
The program as far as can be ascer
tained was heard throughout the
country and at least fifteen hundredj
people listened in in Crisp county
alone, as there were radio sets in
stalled at the court house, Arabi, We
nona Bridges and Penia. There were
several telegrams received by the
Cordelians in Atlanta telling them
of appreciation from their friends
over the country. Every person that
participated in this program gave
great credit to themselves and to
the people whom they represent.
Those who took part in the prog
ram that was broadecasted from At
lanta are as follows: Judge W. P.
Fleming, Misses Mary Ballenger
Mary McCoy, Elizabeth Lawrence,
Mamie Laura Harris, Mesdames Hen
vy Jennings, Edgar Fletcher, Mr. J.
I. Cofield and the Jennings Quartet.
The ladies of the Civie Club are
delighted with the amount of pro
ceeds from the banquet as they will
clear a very good sum to beautify
Cordele,
The Woman's Civie Club, Kiwanis
Club and the Crisp County Board of
Trade wish to thank all those who in
any way contributed to the success
of the banquet.
