Oh, some may sing of Paris and some
may sing of Rome, ‘
And some may sing of far-off isles.
- where wild waves break and foam‘
- And sdthe may ‘tell of wonders in the
ports of seven seas—
'Bnt give me a country cottage and
" the wind among the trees.
i |
Oh, some may tell of turquoise seas,
. of trade winds, reefs and isles,
And ‘praise the tropic beauties where
the sun forever smiles;
And some may sing of wonder lands
... beyond the setting sun—
But give me a country twilight when
-the evening work is done.
I wouldn't trade the corn fields and
/- the meadows and the lane,
And the orchard and the garden,
' bright with sun or wet with rain
For the oriental splendor or the pur
i ple southern seas—
For they’d be strangers to me and
i) I'm.a part of these.
