Mercer President Given
Leave To Regain Health
MACON, Ga., May 19—Dr. Rufus
W. Weaver, president of Mercer
University, left Macon last week for
~a two-months’ vacation in Bermuda,

comes as an effort to regain his
health which has been impaired for

absence at a recent meeting of the
trustees, During his absence, Dr,

trustee” of Sulgrave manor, the
Washington’s ancestral home in Eng
land.

Floods In Northern ‘
Italy Become Worse

’ Pavia, Padus, Piacenza, Vicenza an¥
Verona were inundated while the
Po overflowed within the heart of
’ the industrial section of Turin. 1
Three bodies were recovered from
the Adige river in Trent,
Near Brescia two workmen were
killed by a snow avalanche which
came from the heights of the Ada--
mello mountain,
The Po attained a height of 30 feet
at Piacenza, flooding the lower part
of the city, and snany of the inhabi
tants were forced from the homes.
Services on many railway lines is
suspended, The Milan-Rome express
was unable to rroceed this morning
tracks and bridges having been
washed away above Piacenza,
