Ellsworth On Alaskan
Trip By ‘‘Dogmobile’’
NOME, Alaska, May 21—A com
bined railroad and dog team, one of
the strange means of transportatioil
in the far north, will lcave here with}
Lincoln Ellsworth, of New York, the
American member of the Norge
trans-polar flight, for a gold mining
camp, 46 miles north of here.
The mode of his travel, known as
“dogmobile” is a handcar on an
abandened narrow gauge railroad
pulled by 20 Siberian dogs driven by
Leonard Seppals, winner of the all
Alaska sweepstakes and hero of a
race with death to bring anti-toxin
to diphtheria-stricken Nome resi
dents, 2/
Ellsworth is ‘to’ visit a' camp of the
Hammond conzolidatéd Gold field in
the mountains back of Nome, where
he plans to live like a prospector. He
said he wants to eat some ‘“‘sour
dough” het cakes like those enjoyed
in 1913 while mining siear here.
Ellsworth remarked that food he
ate in a restaurant specially opened
for the explorers by a woman here
reminded him of home and that he
enjoved her hospitality and kindli--
ness, which he likened to his moth
er’s. ; :

Baptist Pleads To Stop
- “Tide Of Modernism’
WASHINGTON, ‘May 21—(#)—
“Stem the tide of modernism,” was
the appeal of Dr. T, D, Shields, of
Toronto, Canada, president of the
Baptigt Bible Union of North Amenri
ca, at the opening of its six-day, con
ference here.
Dr. Shields urged strict adherence
to the historic Baptist position of
fundamentalism. He declared recent
action by the Southern Baptist con
vention in pasging a strong. anti
evolution resolution was a “great
‘ vietory” and added that if the north
- ern convention which meets next
week fails to take a similar stand, “it
would open the doors to that which
[ would be destructive of the George
- Ragland things for which Baptisis
distinctively stand.”
Dr. George Ragland, of Lexington
Ky., bitterly attacked the *“arro
gance of science” and its “over as--
) sertiveness of the wisdom of the
world” in an address on the trend of
modern belief,
