this afternoon, took his shotgun and
escaped,

POL'CEMAN KILLS SELF iN
WAVCROSS BARRACK TUESDAY
WAYCROSS, Ga., June 2—(#)—
Scrgeant J, E. Deen, of the Way
cross police force, shot and killed
himself in the anteroom of the lo
cal police barracks today. A coro
ner's jury returned a verdict of sui
cide. It is believed by friends of
Deen that financial worries caused‘
him to take his life. |
Five minutes before the traged.vi
Deen called his wife on the tele
phone telling her he would be “a lit
tle late” in getting home, Captain
Arthur Yawn, hearing three shots,i
found Deen’s body.
Deen was a member of several
secret and {raternal orders and had
bheen a member of the police de--
rartment for a number of years.

her feelings, Merwin Laetry, an 18
year-old mechanic, decided things

bought a revolver, marched up tc
Miss Adelaide Bartel’s residence ir
Hempstead, and shot himself careful
ly through the left arm.
Then things began to happen, just
as Merwin had hoped. The door
flew open, his sweetheart flew out
and bandaged his arm most so
licitously.
“Im happy though wounded now
I know she loves me,” said the youth
fatously. ’ : !
The only difficulty was that Ade
laide’s father had Merwin arrested
as a nuisance and now he is charged
with carrying a coscealed weapon. ‘

NEWPORT, Ky., June 2—(P)—
Three men were charged with mur
der of Owen D. Campbell, Georfe
town, Ky., by Newport detectives
Information given to them by a 13-
year-old boy lead to the placing o!
the charges agaisst the men., Police
alleged that the three men killed
Campbell in a fight and took his
body to Eden Park, Cincinnati
where it was found on the car tracks

~Martin, 25, Cincinnati; Stanley
Nicholson, 25, and Clarence Leyton
28, Cincinnati,

against the trio came from a 13 year

CORNELL MEN SUSPENDED FOR
ISSUANCE OF MAGAZINES

undergraduates, all men students
have been suspended from Cornel’
University for their part in issuing
objectionable puklications on Spring
day, May 22, it was learned today

The publiations were the “Globe
and Square Dealer” and “Graphie.”
The “Globe and Square Dealer’ was
suspended, beginning today. ‘
It was stated that the shidents
were untactful and used the names
of university officials in a degratroy
manner,
