HIGH COURT DENIES
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., June 4—
—The state supreme court today de
nied a petition for a preemptory writ
of Mandamus filed by Thomas Wat
son, of Tampa, ordering the circuit
court rlerk for Hillsborough county
to have his name placel on the ballot
a 5 o candidate for the state senate.
Mr. Watson, aceording to the testi
maony presented Lo the court here
filed his preliminary expense state
ment in due time., Hig second state
ment was filed on June 1, and the
cirenit clerk claimed that it was not
within the eight-day limit as pro
vided by law.
ATHLETIC CHIEF OF PENNSYL
VANIA REFUSES TO QUIT
PHILADELPHIA, Pa., June 4—
(/)—William H. Rocap, chairman of
the Pennsylvania state Athletic
Commission, who was notified yester
day by Governor Pinchot that hie
resignation had been accepted, de--
clared today that he had not resign
ed, and would not resign until hig
term expires next January 1. He
must have an order from a “higher
authority than the governor,” he said
The governor yesterday notified
him that Frank Weiner, a Philadel
rhia real estate man, had been ap
pointed in his place.
Mr. Rocap said he would take
steps to prevent the state treasurer
from paying out salary to anyone oth
er than himsclf, The office pays $5,-
000 a year. |
“My appointment had to be con-l
firmed by the state senate, and my
diemissal should take the same
course,” Rocap said.

president, and Dr. M. M. Head,
Zebulon, reelected secretary-treasur
er. The meeting is held each year at
the same time and place as that of
the Association of County Commis--

NOBILE PLANS ROME TO
TOKYO TRIP OVER POLE

Colonel Umberto Nobile believes that
a trans-polar flight from Aome to
Tokyo is possible but he has mace
only fragmentary plans for making
such a trip.
“The report that I would under
take the flight in September is in
exact,” Nobile who has reached
Nome from Teller with five ItalianJ
members of the Norge’s crew said.
“I understand the rumors arose
from the fact that another will be
sent to Japan by the Italian govern
ment.” l

trans-polar flight from Rome te

last trans-polar flight and is not ab
solutely impossible that some day it
will be fully realized.”
