watermelons are expected this sea
son than ever before known in the
United States except once. The gov
crnment bureau of agriculturual eco
nomies reported today that the peak
of ‘the movement will be reached
within' the next few weeks.
Biggest increases are looked for

takes rank second only to Georgia
as the champion watermelon pro--
ducer, the eastern sections may dou
ble the 1925 output.
Apparentlly a ripe red watermelon

Army officers are leaving the ser-'
vice in increasing numbers to accept
private employment or go into busi
ness for themselves,
Resignations for the first five
months of 1926 totalled 95 officers,
ranging from second licutenants to
colonels, only 42 quit durine the
same months last vear.
Thirty-four percent of the 95 wore
_infantry officers, and 18 percent
were in the air service,
