* - Mrs. McDonald’s attractive new
‘bungalow was made even more at--
tréictive. by the use of quantities of
cpring flowers. Nasturtiums, gladioli
and snapdragon were used in effec
tively on piano, book case, mantels
and tables.
+ Two large rooms were thrown to
gether wheére eight tables were
rlaced. At the noon hour a delicious
two course luncheon was served tc
the players seated at the bridge
tables."
. THe honor guest was beautifully
attired in a sand colored costume of
flat crepe, tan hose and blond kid
slippers. With this she wore a very
becoming tan and rose hat. She was
presented with 'a novelty coin and
card case. Mrs. Edgar Fletcher, who
made top score, received a beautifu)
candy jar and Mrs. Hunt Ledbetter
made lowest score and received the
boaky ‘prize. . .
The hostesses were assisted in re
ceiving .and serving by Mrs. T. E
Bradley, Mrs. O. T. Gower and Mrs,
Gladstone Fleming. |

PICNIC AT BROWN'S MILL.
Mrs. Rush Bulloch chaperoned a
crowd of boys and girls yesterday on
a picnic out to Brown’s Mill. They
went out at noon and enjoyed a de
lightful lunch and an outing in the
woods, wading and playing games

returned to the city in cars after en

RICHMOND, Va., June 9—(#)—
Twenty-one and sixteen nave yielded
to a new type of romance and cupid
from his perch, is watching the re
gults of capricious handiwork, |
Roy Hinton Mathews, 19, robust
and serious minded, and his demure
bride of 72, today left the city, the
scene of their honeymoon, for their
return to Newport News, They were
married Saturday.
The bride told with pride of their
happiness thus far, Both oalked wher
approached for a photo by a press
photograper, but the groom yiclded
when he saw it would give the bride
pleasure,
* Mrs. Mathews declared this after
noon that it was a case of “love at
first sight I puess, and he wouldn't
fet me wait another day. We were
supremely happy.”
It was during a tuneral al a board
ing house at which ~ Mrs. Mathews
lived that they first met, The fol-]
lowing day he called. Soon he asked
