new honor that of being the first
man to “¢atch ‘a baseball dropped

The ball was dropped by Capt., R.
F. McClelland, flying an aymy pur
suit plane. The attempt to establish
a new altitude catching record, how
ever, failed as Ruth could not locate
balls dropped rrom higher altitude
in time to get under them.
The catch was made on the
seventh attempt. The iirst attempt
was made at ar altitude of 1,000
feet. The ball dropped among
cameramen. The plane then de
scending to from 200 to 300 feet
and Ruth missed five balls after
hard runs. The ball Ruth caught was

Caroline blue laws. '
This announcement was made here
by Linn A. E. Hale, an executive
of the association opposed to the
blue laws.
Eishteen Asheville youths will be
selected to play-baseball games Sun
day, and the acmission will be 10
cente—*“just enough to make the
test possible,” Hale said.
When the first patrons arrive,
Hale declared, all the players will
be arrested and, if fined, their cases
will be appealed by the Anti-Blue
Law Association.
